Remember when you said OSS wasn’t going to overlap with TCU and vice versa? You werent going to post anything OSS related personally, no mention of it being your brand, etc., etc. What happened with that? Are you paying yourself to advertise OSS on TCU?
I do remember saying that, and my position has changed although I don’t think I’ve ever publicly explained myself. So here goes:
At first, OSS (that’s our website, go look at it) was supposed to be a parts brand. A bunch of parts brands advertise on TCU, and although they all gave me their blessings, I felt like it would be important to create a separation by leaving all OSS posting to Brett. This didn’t really work, because I ended up just emailing Brett things to post, which is pretty stupid. Why not just post those things myself instead of sending Brett a message telling him exactly what to post.
We ditched the parts brand idea and now we are just a clothing line, which is great because we don’t really have any clothing companies who advertise with us, although we are about to sign deals with a couple (they’re so large that they definitely don’t care/know that I own/promote OSS). I also just found that our advertisers really didn’t care if I posted about OSS. Why would they? We were/are tiny and are only now starting to show signs of becoming very popular. Why bother making special rules regarding OSS posts on TCU? Nobody seems to care, so there’s no reason for me to care.
Now I don’t mind publicly acknowledging that TCU and OSS are sister-companies and promoting them as such. My only concern was keeping our advertisers happy, as long as we are able to do that I’ll continue to promote OSS through TCU.
Speaking of, like OSS on Facebook and follow OSS on Twitter.
