Jamie Bestwick Speaks On His Relationships With Fellow Vert Riders.

Jamie Bestwick has an interview on ESPN where he shouts out Christian Rigal for his grind ledge edit and speaks on his relationships with his fellow vert pros. Jamie was a victim of quite a bit of bad press a few months ago after his Albion interview and he seems to be choosing his words much more carefully here, making it clear that none of the supposed animosity is anything more than just the spoils of a bunch of hyper-competitive athletes who face off a few times a year:

“Something we all have in common is that we ride a competitive sport. My competitiveness has always been the same — and it always will be. I enjoy riding my bike and I get on my bike to live out my dream of being the best I can be and channel my efforts into something so creative as BMX bike riding is to me. I am pretty much my own biggest competitor. Friendships that I have now and have had along the way, whether that is with Simon [Tabron], Kevin [Robinson], Mat [Hoffman], Dave Mirra, Jay Miron, Stevie [McCann], Chad [Kagy], have always been on the same level, and still are to this day. We all have the same goal, and that is to be the best at what we do. We all speak to each other, have a laugh on the deck and have grabbed the odd beer or bite to eat together in the past, whether at a contest or not, and that’s about it. But at the end of the day, we get off the ramp and we all go our separate ways, much like any sport really. I have different interests off the ramp, but the bike, contests and Woodward brings us all together at similar times. I think people perceive things to be other than they really are. People like to create stories, whether true or not and I feel like I’m going over the same ground again and again. But at the end of the day none of it matters. Maybe there’s a misconception that because we share the deck of the ramp and we are acquaintances, then we share much more of our lives — but for me this isn’t the case. I feel respect for everyone and if that wasn’t the case I would hope I am accessible enough for anyone to ask me what’s up? In all honesty, I get on my bike for me, I get done what I want to get done — I put my hand up, cheers and I’m off. I don’t like to live anyone else’s life, and it’s not about not caring, it’s just I live my life for my family and me. That’s it.”

Dave Belcher Fishing Video.

A while back somebody told me that Animal pro, Dave Belcher is super into fishing, to the extent that him and his buddies make videos of themselves fishing that sometimes get thousands of views on Youtube. Here’s his new one. The video description says “This edit displays how worthy fishing the transitions between pre spawn and spawning bass can be when you apply yourself to the tactics” so this is serious stuff even if you don’t know anything about fishing, like me.

Stop Tony Malouf.

So Tony Malouf just hit me up to tell me about a strange phenomenon he’s been dealing with. Basically a bunch of weird Swedish kids have started a campaign in which they parody the Stop KONY video (I think I’m the only person left on earth who hasn’t watched that thing) in order to mock Tony for supposedly smoking all their weed. Tony has never met these kids. Check one of their viral anti-Malouf videos after the jump. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, foreign kids are fucking weird.

Mark Burnett Video.

The other day Jake Seeley showed me all this footage from his friend, Mark Burnett who lives in upstate New York. Mark is 13 and can do feeble hard 180 bars, feeble 3′s, nose manual bars and lots of other stuff. His style is clean as hell too. I am forced to assume that Mark has a bright, bright future ahead of him.

TCU Presents: Chad Kerley’s Vitamin Water Invitational.

You’ll see a lot of edits this week from Chad Kerley’s landmark Vitamin Water Invitational but I have my suspicions that this one will be your favorite. We sent John Hicks out to cover the contest and he did an amazing job. Click here to check out the results from the contest and click here to Like The Come Up on Facebook.

RIP Mike “MCM” McCafferty.

News surfaced over the weekend that MCM of the legendary ECD crew passed. I reached out to some of his friends for a quote about his life. His good friend, Deuce volunteered:

“It’s odd but i am really at a loss for words here. He was the most “BMX” guy that i ever met. I used to ride with him like 20 years ago before i was in a wheelchair. Most people only know me as “that handicapped kid” at contests and jams. I used to ride trails with Butcher,Luc-E,Joe Rich, and so many more. Mike was all about promoting BMX. He made ECD what it is today. To your younger audience, that is East Coast Destruction. Mike pushed that small clothing brand into a worldwide thing. He is probably the reason bikes are allowed in the Bethlehem Skateplaza. We’ve only become best friends in the past couple months, but i’ve been talking to him pretty much every week for over ten years. Mike “MCM” McCafferty pretty much taught me how to run my clothing company ten years ago. About two weeks ago,we sat down and planned an entire bike company. So Syndicate is for you Mike and i’ll try hard. If any of you were lucky enough to know MCM he’d want you to rest assured that ECD WILL NEVER DIE!”

Unit Life: VX Edit.

Another day, another amazing edit featuring Kriss Kyle doing something insane at Unit 23. When will it stop? Probably never. Kriss and the rest of his crew all put down a lot of good shit in this one and it was all filmed VX so you know it’s super duper street authentic.

[Re-up] Sean Morr Video.

It’s always a bummer to see a really dope web edit come out and not really get the attention it deserves. This is a prime example. I think this edit suffered due to a few factors: It came out on a day in which a bunch of other high profile edits came out, we didn’t sticky it or anything and it was off the first page quickly. Sean Morr is the fucking man and everyone would be smart to give this another watch. Respect the predator.
