New Tree Front Hubs.

front-hubs-color
Bobby from Blackout, who distribute Tree exclusively in the US, hit me up about Tree’s new front hub. Photos and a ton of info about this thing after the jump.

-Black
-Weight- 235g/ 8.4oz
-Removable and replaceable high strength nylon plastic hub guard that protects the spokes and greatly increases the life of the spokes when used by hardcore street riders. The hub will come with one guard but extra guards can be purchased separately. (this beast goes right on the hub with a C clip that you can take off with pretty much anything. I used a flat head screw driver for mine. You could prolly use a good prison shank too if you had one of those laying around. Either way it’s a hub guard that actually works!)

-Female 17mm 7075 t6 aluminum axle.

-Straight pull spoke design, creating one of the strongest and stiffest wheels in BMX. (by using a straight pull spoke over the conventional spoke, you lose the flex that can happen at the curved point right by the head on a normal spoke)

-Very easy to lace the wheel, just push the spoke into the hub and the spoke goes right to the corresponding hole in the rim.

-Spokes will be available through Tree Bicycle Co/Blackout. They cost the same as other spokes. (they are called the “Tree Twigs and Berries”)

-Unique thread design that prevents cross threading the axle. The bolts thread directly into the aluminum axle. Our tests have shown that the aluminum threads are very strong so that under high torque the bolt will pull apart before the threads strip out. (this is crazy how it works. At interbike last year I tried every possible way to get the bolt to cross thread into the axle. That son-bitch in a way “self centers” in the threads and goes right in. works damn good)

-Very special bearing system that allows no looseness in the hub while at the same time allowing no resistance to rolling from side loads. The bolts can be tightened as tight as you want and it will never make the wheel roll slower. (one of my shop guys has the front and rear (different email) and he said that these wheels were the best wheels he has ever ridden. “I haven’t ever been able to tell a difference in a brand new wheelset until these wheels. They roll forevvvver.”)

-The spokes are laced 5 cross. We chose 5 cross because it made it possible to assemble the wheel and it has the same strength of a 4 cross which is the strongest lacing pattern for a 36 hole wheel. This design only looses an effective “flange” diameter of 1/32″ or .5mm, which is very minuscule to the benefits of straight pull spokes.

  • tree

    dear sir….

rear cassette is in the words. proto-types are being tested by our riders as you blog.

  • tree

    *in the works

  • jordan

tree makes legit stuff. i got two of the stunt stumps and they are the smoothest pegs ever. there only an once heavier than plegs and they’re gonna last so much longer. i definetly wanna get this hub

  • not likin it

uhm…. imo… the straight pull spoke sux… and making a hub that only can use your spokes really limits riders…. what if they have the wheel and they are in an area that doesnt carry tree products, or cant get them due to a shop that has an account with the distro but doesn’t stock it, and breaks a few spokes and needs more… trip ruined. nice looking hub though… and I am sure it works great, but I would never run one due to the tree only spoke…

  • not likin it

sorry, not that the straight pull spoke sux, but the idea of only using a tree straight pull spoke as dt swiss do not make them in bmx sizes…

  • james

So can that hub guard have any compatability with the round wheels straight hub?

  • james

you dont have to use there spokes. you can just get some straight pull spokes and cut um. duh

  • not likin it

and everyone carries a spoke threader too right…

  • http://www.myspace.com/guerilla_idiom JP

    that’s actually real hot.

It’s nice to see bmx companies working with tried and true ideas that the cycling industry has been using for years, instead of pulling half-assed parts ideas out of their ass. We’re probably the slowest bike industry genre as far as progressive new ideas goes, and also one of the most expensive for how cheaply our stuff is made.

  • e

oooooooh this is fucking magic, this sounds like the holy grail of front hubs, i’m dying to get one.when will they be available???

  • Jake

    this looks so legit.
and as for if some spokes break,
just have some extra for the trip.
but anyways im definately picking up one of these.

  • the answer man.

if they arent in an area that stocks tree products, then how would the have the hub in the first place? and straight pull spokes aren’t some new invention. they have been around forever. if a bike shop has any in stock and had a spoke threader (a lot of shops do), they could just make the length you need. plus, if you are doing grinds, just run the hub guards. the chances of you breaking a spoke with this design (with hub guard attached) is very very minimal. this hub will more than likely be pretty bomb proof.

and you are also awesome for having an opinion on something, and not talk shit. you must be a professional blogger.

  • tree

sorry, but the tree guard is only compatible with the tree hub.

you do get one free guard with the purchase of a front hub though!

  • tree

they hit our distro in 2 weeks or less if nothing goes wrong during shipping! have your local shop call Blackout Distribution to put one on a backorder for you!

  • Not Billy Malkotsis

fuck. i just got my gsport marmoset.

  • james

    bike shops

  • matt

i am now a tree hugger.

  • Fixed

If a shop has a spoke cutter then you can get any size you want.

  • boomshit

    interesting.

  • whitestrikr

    way to copy mavic hubs

  • Justin Soares

    :) haha

  • Travis

i got a pair, yes front and back, of prototypes and they are for sure the smoothest hubs ive ever rode in my life, i hear they are supposed to be pretty pricey when they come out though,

  • http://nahyouritemate.blogspot.com/ FLAGZ

WOW, I CANT BELIVE IT, THE CRAZIEST…………….ah i cant be fucked, SIMPLE HUB!!! Thank Jimmy Roustland.

  • Clint

5 cross? whaaaat? Maybe it’s different because it’s a straight pull, but I thought 4 was the max. That and the whole 3 cross is better for 36 thing

  • Braz

    Good, they’re sick.

  • e

idk, but the wheel on the pictures seems to be laced the usual way to me?
    probably just your choice.

  • http://littlesquirts.gov shit goat

will spoke lenth matter and how the fuck would we know what size to get if its 5 cross

  • http://www.dayspics.com Day

um, i only count 4 cross??? maybe its just me, either way though these will probably need like 194-196mm spokes which i dont really like, presonally i prefer 3 crossing my wheels :/
