New Tree Rear Hub.

tree-rear-assembly-1
Tree sent over all the info about their upcoming rear hub the other day when I posted the front hub, but I partied a little too hard over the weekend and forgot to post it til now. Either way check it all out after the jump.

Rear Hub info

Ceramic plain bearing (same as Proper hub driver)

Hub weighs 14oz

Straight pull spokes

Snap on non drive side hub guard available separately

Snap on cog guard available separately

-Female 17mm 4140 heatreated axle.

-the hub will be available in 36hole only

-Very special bearing system that allows no looseness in the hub while at the same time allowing no resistance to rolling from side loads. The bolts can be tightened as tight as you want and it will never make the wheel roll slower.

Also, the twig and berry spoke and nipples that tree will have will be available in white or black and straight gauge or double butted.

Also, the picture of just the guard and c-clip is the same guard that you would use on the front hub. Keepin it simple.

And ps…here are some words about sam regarding the front hub

“I’ve wanted to redesign the original Tree front hub for awhile. The original hub worked really great and I ran one for a 3 year span and never broke any spokes from grinding, but I thought there were still some things that could be improved since the flange was so thick that it sometimes landed on top of what you’re grinding upon. I decided that a flange-less hub would be better. This straight pull hub is the product of countless hours of design and thought. Every aspect has been contemplated to produce what I think is the best BMX hub ever. “

    ballz yes

  • KAPITOL

Nice but not new, I saw that hubs since 15 year ago, don’t understand way make hubs with that horrible style flange, also it looks that don’t save any weight compare to the regular ones.

  • sam stanfield

that looks sick as hell. once they hit stores theyll sell like hotcakes. even thos its an old race design, its still something fresh to bring out to a stale market.

    are these available already?

    Sweet hub

This style of flange eliminates the use of weak J-bend style spokes and allows the use of straight spokes whick in turn makes your wheel stronger and easier to true/maintain. Sam @ Tree knows what he is doing- the design you may have seen 15 years ago was different on so many levels- Sam designed this hub around his hollow axel concept and has integrated in new features unavailible 15 years ago such as 1-piece drivers- this hub will surely be great and low MX- I look foward to owning one. I have had my tree front for about 5 years now and it is still running the stock bearings and axels, I have never broken my DT spokes and only had to do minor truing 2 times in that time frame- I ride hard, have front brakes and weigh 220- this should reflect the quality of Sam’s craftstmanship-

Tree fuckin rules, best looking rear I’ve seen since Pammy

  • pawelb

please tell me they will be available in 10t drivers,,all the hubs i want are in 9t only.

  • team iowa

    8tooth? 9tooth? 10tooth?

  • dan

its gonna be expensive as fuck though…

  • lol

totally called this hub out four years ago, a mountian biker was at my park and was running one of theses straight spoke type and i said it was just a mtter of time before a bmx company starts making them

  • willdebruce

They look sweet. too bad i just got the gsport ratchet. where are the tree hubs made?

  • boomshit

does sam still do the paleolithic diet?

  • FTP

Yeah straight pull spokes have been used in MTB for a while (DMax hubs etc) but I’m pretty sure they originate from Road bikes.

This Tree hub looks awesome though! Clean, simple (although not technically simple I bet!) and looks like it has hardly any parts to it.

Love the look of it but won’t be able to afford 1 haha!

  • Nathan

I’m pretty sure thery’ll come in 10t and so on, because Sam runs like 30 11 i think, and he has one.

  • Luc Rules!

nice to see bmx has finally joined road bike/mtn bike/ and race bike parts all together think it took long enough to catch on to good ideas ?

  • DrifterDaveICC

did I mention Tree fuckin rules? one of the last rider owned companies puttin real innovation. I love every product, a real reason for every detail, and sick designs that make you stoked to ride that shit. The driver side gaurd is rad a fuck! I made a similar one out of a SNAFU hubgaurd, worked great for a short time, but this design looks amazing, beefy where it should be. Looks like a worthy investment for 4 peg destroyers. Tree fuckin rules

  • Daddy

ever heard of clipless pedals? Racing is BMX too

  • Callin you out

I totally called it out there would be gimps callin shit out blahblahblah go jerk off and die

  • ollie

    so wet for this..

  • http://www.theyea.com matt

this is really interesting. if it works really good like they say it does i’m soo into it.

  • http://www.dayspics.com Day

Wow these new hubs are AMAZING!
I just really wish this had a little more info about the driver because if it is a 3 pawl 1 spring design like hazard hubs I’ll be way bummed, those types of hubs/drivers just dont engage fast enough :/
Either way I’m probably gonna be ordering me a set of these.

  • iliketreebikes

i love the axle being a ratchet heat part, so no stripping

  • lol

wow touchy but i guess i would be mad too if i was repeatedly raped by my father…are you sure your name isnt chris duncan?

  • maxthestreetkiller

now all someon has to do is make a freecoster like this and i will jump onbored with the flangless hub idea.

  • poop

has anyone else noticed the square headed bolts?

  • Justin Soares

trickle down technology. Shimano does it every year. bmx, mtb and even road share technologies that trickle down to each other, have you heard of b/b 30? it is the recent mtb/road version of the pressfit mid(or spanish). mtb companies now stock thier bikes with the pivitol… it wouldnt benifit roadies but freeriders love the bmx invention. This hub design works so well for Mavic that it was only a matter of time for the idea to trickle down into the bmx world. :) keep it going. we all cycle

  • N.E. Man

I dont think 48 would work with this hub. That would require those (bridge flanges) or what ever they’re called to be closer together and might be impossible to get spokes through. It does look clever though.

  • D.Ho

Yeah, you stick your ratchet driver/extension in there to tighten it.

  • jake

ya thats a 3/8 ratchet drive you doorknob. so you dont need a socket.

  • nope

are they gunna sell as stock wheels too? i’d love to buy a set of these babies, better be on danscomp soon!

  • truth

I love tree bc there products are well thought of and work well, more bike companies should follow there foot steps

  • BJ

is it designed for four cross pattern? hope so

  • anon

wow i totally partied so hard

  • Travis

  • brig

….or just that you want a wheel that will last cos you weigh more than 10 stone…

  • Travis

can you post pictures on this thing??

  • http://www.northamptonbmx.blogspot.com Jada

    ugly as fuckkkkkk

  • tree

yo dave! front brakes are awesome! and i just want to take the time real quick to let you guys all know we are not trying to say we invented straight pull hubs/spokes. it is true they have been around for a long time. but like dave mentioned, using a straight pull design will make the wheel a bit stiffer. and we like it stiff.

and yes, sam still eats the craziest shit you have ever seen in your life.

  • tree

the front hubs will be available very soon. as for the rear hubs, we are testing everything out with our riders right now. everybody has been super pumped on them, and so far so good!

  • tree

    4 peg destroyers rule.

  • tree

this is an idea we are toying around with. not sure if that will be on the production hubs or not. we think it looks kind of clean.

  • tree

this design is actually a 5 cross. i know that sounds crazier than bat turds because everybody normally runs a 3 cross or a 4 cross on their wheels currently. but due to how the flanges line up with one another, the spoke actually crosses over 5 other spokes from the head to the threads. an “over, over, over, over, under, over” to all the wheel builders out there.

lacing up the new tree hubs are simple! because of the straight pull design, you literally just slide the spoke into the hub and it goes straight into its corresponding hole in the rim!

we wear lab coats when designing all of our products, so you know we have thought out every little detail for you guys.

  • tree

we made a few samples with RHD and LHD and a few different driver types. once the hub goes into full production we will have some options for you guys. you can expect a 9t and a 10t for sure.

we love all bikes at tree! we just got done with a batch of larger spline drive sprockets for use with fixed gears and single speeds. we have been getting a lot of requests from the single speed guys for a good sprocket, so we hooked it up! if you are looking for one of those, send us an email and we will send you in the direction of one of the shops that has them in stock right now!

  • Brad

That will be the last hubset I have to buy. Way to go Sam and co.!

  • http://www.nathanpieper.com Pieper

don’t straight pull spokes tend to just spin round and round after about a year when spoke nipples start to freeze up a bit?

  • joe m

please keep the ratchet bolts, or sell them seperately. that is a great idea.

  • tree

thanks, we are still toying with the idea. glad to hear some feedback from all you guys on this, be it good or bad. we dont have any problems with people who dont like our stuff! its bmx for cryin out loud. there are enough parts made by enough companies that you should be able to ride what you want from whatever company you want. just as long as you are supporting bmx and bmx companies you rule!

  • tree

yo dude- just to let you know, there are specific tools you can use to hold the spoke steady to give it some tension. if you dont have this tool, all you have to do is just give the spoke a little pull in the middle, and the tension caused from that should hold the head of the spoke in the hub flange no problem! and if you have a problem with spoke nipples freezing up, just try some dripping a drop or two of tri flow lube right on that nipple. lube and nipples. works every time.

  • nope

any word on when these babies are coming out? and if their gunna come as complete wheels? better be available in 14mm 36 hole RHD 10 tooth!

  • ..Hellboy..

    one thing ?

    HOW MUCH ?

beucase i want a set of these :)

    a 5 cross design :O

    nice!

whats the design of he paws ??
    just wondering man

  • http://Website justien beiber

my friend ran a round wheels straight pull rear hub and only had to true it twice in two years and hes like 200 lbs and rides pretty rough… when we finally took it apart turned out it wasonly 32 spokes and still held up hella good. fuck why do you think so many mountain bikes run straight pull, dont they get crazy sideloads jumping off shit and smashing on rocks and stuff? idk, just a thoughtl….

    blue six this shit, ha!

  • http://Website justien beiber

hey tree guys, does it make a difference if your spo0kes cross over in the middle like on the ribcage? I wanna lace one to a bird cage

  • http://Website justien beiber

also if you want a female axle straight pull rear wheel and dont wanna wait for this, you can get a roundwheels rear hub and use the premium or odsy female axle kits for the ody hazard… i dunno, not saying its for a fact but i heard they use the same internals

  • http://Website justien beiber

no, i want to have the most badass bike at the skatepark
