Sneak Shots Of Sunday’s Wave 3!

When Jake Seeley showed up today with Stew Johnson to film for a couple days, he was on a new Sunday… and I quickly realized it wasn’t just another Wave 2, it was the new Wave 3. I had been hearing for a while that the Wave 3 came with a waved top tube similar to the Sunday’s famous downtube and sure enough, it does. I took a few shitty camera phone shots, the top of the toptube is basically just like the bottom of the Wave’s downtube (which seems like it hasn’t changed since the Wave2) and the underside of it has a bigger, singular indentation. There are probably some other innovations going on with this frame although I’m not sure what they are yet. Check the other photos after the jump.

Wave downtube to prevent denting from grinds makes sense.
Who does top tube grinds?
The answer is simple even when you dent the top tube of your frame it will weaken the whole front end. Simple.
who does downtube rinds?
no one really.
but when you try tricks you fall and shit bounces out of control.
and it looks like you can route the brake cable under the top tube all stealthy and what not…

As always Adam is good at leaking info that he shouldn’t. As most of you know, Sunday is always trying new and inventive ways to improve a BMX bike’s performance. Which is why other companies are heat treating frames, copying our hollow dropouts, doing angled brake mounts and using Black Magic rustproof coating on their parts. There’s stuff we do that we can’t even say because it will get copied. We made a few samples of Funday’s and Wave’s with the waved top tube because the wave downtube has been proven so strong. Why not improve the strength of the whole front end by using a stronger top tube? The current Second Wave and Funday frames are easily the toughest frame we’ve done so far. Jake has only been on this frame for a few days now, so there’s many more months of testing to be done with it. The earliest you might see this would be late spring of 2010. As always Sunday will continue to design and make products that will fit the rider’s needs.

PS The wishbone is the same wishbone that has been proven on the Second Wave, Ian Schwartz and Fundays. Basically it works.

That thing is pretty sweet, looks like it has removable brake mounts as well considering there is gyro tab holes yet not mounts or cable guides. Looks Sick though, can’t wait to see production models.

I’ve been on a 2nd wave for nearly a year now and it’s been sweet. Every tight jeaned, fashion kid wants a waffer light bike and Sunday! are busting out the strongest and lightest. Yeah it may have a evolved from the plain old double diamond frames but so has BMX and the riders. Fair, if you want something different then go ahead and buy it (like their aint enough out there to suit anyone now) but don’t bitch about it. Don’t like it, don’t have it. JC’s done good.

I thought the wave 2 frames were the shit. Some people think they were ugly, hell i thought the schwartz was one of the best frames out there and thats before you look at the perfect geo it reps. Shit works. I have a Dehart and a year old Ian and the Dehart has a huge fucking dent in the downtube already.
The stronger the frame the better,if your willing to sacrifice your body by taking the chance that your headtube will explode due to your 3 pound frame than go ahead and get broke. I like riding my Sunday because I know that I can trust it. Even if those Ian fish are pain in the ass to take off It still feels so much more solid than any frame I’ve had since my STA back in like 1998. Cheers.

A friend has a Sunday Schwartz that is one of my fav bikes to ride. Not only because of the geometry but because how damn stiff the thing is. I think it might have something to with the Wave? IDK. But man that is nice. Super similar geometry to my frame(Take Time) and a way close setup (just lower bars) and the thing simply pops
Function over design. One of many reasons Sunday actually makes good shit. Unlike Fit or S&M or most companies for that matter who’s only goal is to make a frame that is lighter than the one before it, whatever the cost may be. Even if its strength.

if you ever listen to anyone discuss the wave’s, the 41 thermal alone makes it great,the wave is designed so if you ever hit the down tube,you only get a little dent on the wave,not a big ass dent like conventional round tubes would so its less stress on the downtube,if you even dent it.Strong frames but not invincible. still riding the 07′

Ok so since my previous comment is missing, I have to come back on here and discuss the top tube. Jake’s bike is a Funday like you see in the stores today, but it has an experimental top tube. We have to test the prototype stuff before we put it out. Don’t think this will come on every Sunday and it won’t come on any if it doesn’t work or even improve the quality of the product enough. If it costs more and improves the product just a little bit then we won’t even do it. Yes, we have thought about doing Waves on the chainstays, but it is difficult to bend a wave tube.
