BMXers Banned From New Tampa Skatepark.

tanzanite20skatepark2031
Matt Coplon sent over a link to a news article about the new local park in Tampa which at the last minute, after almost 700k being spent on it, has decided to not allow bikes for the bizarre reasoning of “not enough money for beefed up coping”. They namedrop TCU which is cute.

If you can’t already tell, the above image is my default for skatepark news stories that I don’t have a photo to go with.

    ^that park is deeeece

  • ryan t

such bull shit why dont they just not allow pegs or something.
skate bord trucks cant do much more damage than pegs i hope more people agree with me.

  • just saying

The city was barraged with angry e-mails from bikers from Oxford, England, Canada and different reaches of the United States

Since when was Oxford a country? Thought it was in England? It was when I lived there anyway.

  • Me

That park is defiantly in sacramento, you need a new default pic

  • jack

man that bites. i dunno wat id do if all the skateparks i wnt to here in australia banned bmx. they would never get used if we didnt ride em. this makes no sense shouldnt they be worrying about bigger problems in the world then bmx riding skate parks

  • the b team

all the more reason to ride street then innit lad

  • Alex

Whats with American park constantly seperating the different sports? why not be like here and let everyone ride at the same time, with whatever pegs/ jagged pieces of metal they want. Skaters/bmxers/bladers all ride at the same time, very very rarely is there confrontation.

  • http://myspace miles

i remember when my local was being planned. the input from skaters and riders was equal, then the council said about not letting bikes in. i think the only thing that changed their mind was the fact that the skate boarders and bladers also said it was outrageous. the only thing that wil change a city council’s mind is if everyone gets together.

    WTF?

  • Chris

hahaha read the NO BIKES from NO BIKES comment the kid is a skater who ried to sound smart but actually gave reasons why bikes are safer he said BIKES HAVE BRAKES THEYRE MORE DANGEROUS

  • steve peat

There is a comma in between oxford and england to sybolize it being one place. Like Tampa, Florida. what there saying is Oxford, England and Canada.

  • will

    fucking pigs

  • ELG

i love how they use words like bummer, and rad, in every extreme sports news article, journalists are dumb.

  • Nexus 7

One major problem is that a good chunk of the concrete park building companies are run/heavily influenced by Thrasher-think skaters.

  • Nexus 7

The big money sponsors that market to BMX and Skateboarding could help change this.

We need some PR work, ad campaign, lobbying and legal help, but where will the money come from?

One thing we need to take away is the term “Skate-park”. The name itself implies that bike use isn’t legitmate.

  • timtim

fucking dick diglers thats my are and they can jablow me

  • http://www.redendo.com John Dale

    Hi Alex,

The reason is that Skate park builders make twice the money by recommending that bikes not be allowed in “skate” parks and are forced to ‘build their own’, even though Eddie Fiola and many others have been shredding concrete since 1981.

  • http://baysmog.com locals only

well actually bikes are consider cars by law so if u let bikes in u have to let the cars ride too and they fuck up the ledges but since this new law sating that any bike under 20 inches is a toy it shouldnt be an issue anymore unless they dont want tonka trucks on the 1/4 pipes

  • T$B Dave

people will ride it if bikes r allowed or not, i would, fuck em

  • Brundle

    there or they’re?

  • nate

that is bull if i lived there i would just go there and bike

  • partyboy

I think it is hilarious that the city would do such a thing. When plans start,”we want bikes and skateboards to be together,” then reality kicks in. “You know what, Nevermind” Probably from rich yuppie scum told him to do this.
