Earlier today Twitter got a little shaken up by a blog written on a popular sports website (that I’m not linking to and I’ll explain why in a moment) in which a sportswriter who knows absolutely nothing about BMX named Kyle Vassalo encouraged Dennis Mccoy to quit competing in BMX contests and said a whole bunch of other pompous things including:

“There comes a point in time when people need to move on with their lives. He doesn’t exactly fit the X Games mold anymore and his unwillingness to retire makes his presence in the competition almost laughable.”

Here’s the deal:

This guy is an intern at a sports website. That means he writes for free just so he can put the name of a big website on his resume. As ridiculous as this concept may sound to those of you who expect financial compensation for your labor, it’s pretty common. The sole thing that Kyle could do to perk the eyebrows of whoever he reports to, would be to get the site a lot of page views. How could he do that? By saying something controversial that would get other popular websites like this one to link to their site.

Well Kyle, I’m NOT going to link to your dumb article but I am going to point out that you know absolutely nothing about BMX and that all those other guys sitting on the deck of the vert ramp all have a tremendous amount of respect for DMC and consider the level of riding he is capable of after all these years absolutely amazing. DMC isn’t competing against those guys up there, he’s competing against himself and every year in which he’s still able to go out there and do amazing things on a bike and learn new things is a success for him. Your opinion sucks and we all know it, I just wanted to throw up this post to remind Dennis that he is an inspiration to all of us and to not be bothered by bottom feeding scum like you.
