TCU Exclusive: Scott Summerhayes Interview.

Ian Schwartz Off Sunday!

by ChrisZep on 01/04/10

Really wasn’t expecting this one especially with there being no mention of it in his TCU exclusive interview. Check out his statement after the jump. Interested to see who takes his spot on Sunday Pro…

“Quitting riding to be a farmer is definitely an odd choice but not as odd as Day Day quitting riding to play Farmville full time.”

About 6 months ago I reached a point with riding that it just didn’t feel the same as it used to. Although its been a dream come true and I would never trade any of it, I’m certain it’s time for me to move on.
I was raised on a family farm and enjoyed it as a kid, but lost interest as I grew older and found other things. Well a couple years back I started to find enjoyment in the goings on of it again and began to read and learn about it. I’ve been able to meet and work with many area farmers and found an entire world of ideas and opportunities to explore. My family has allowed me to lease a small 17 acre field on our farm and I’ve begun implementing my ideas for responsible, respectful and productive food growing. I hope to grow (but not too big), either on our farm or on my own somewhere else in or around my hometown of Lancaster, Ohio.
I still love riding, and will continue to ride, just not in the same way as I have for the past 4 or 5 years. I appreciate the kids that have had nice things to say online and in-person, and I’ve had an awesome time with the guys on the team.
Take care,
Ian

Seriously, good luck man. Always seemed like a stand up guy.

  24. Good his frame was rubbish anyway, worst bike i ever rode.

  25. That is so fucking awesome! I’m glad to hear that he’s interested in working on alternatives to mass-produced and industrialized food sources. Now the trick will be remaining fiscally/politically responsible and do so in an economically ravaged state without accepting any subsidies.

  26. ian schwartz is washed up. goodbye douchebagg!!!!

  27. This is so sad. i just got his frame n love it. this sucks. it feels like he died or something.

  36. I’ve been riding 18 years and Ian’s frame was just garbage, uncomfortable to ride, and dented in two weeks. That bike made me not want to ride anymore. Im back on a FIT

  37. No way, I call bluff, I bet he’s gonna be riding for stranger.

  38. haa everytime i chill with day day that ni66a is always crackin on somebody… funny dude

  39. life is crazy = ]
all the good things to ian

  40. It really amazes me that you guys think of ian schwartz is a washed up, lazy bmxer, thats totally full of him self. The people that think that are the young generation obviously, because all they care about is image and who has the tightest pants. YOU SEE WHEN YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE NOT CARING WHAT OTHERS THINK ABOUT YOU OR NOT FOLLOWING TRENDS PEOPLE HATE YOU FOR IT. Its sad really. Fuck this young generation of “bmxers” go 180 off 5inch curb fagots.

    • you are the one labelling people BMXers by your standards.

    • goin for 3rds…do people seriously still talk/bring up tight pants…its v necks now…which is worse.

    • Saying the young only care about image and that’s why they can’t say Ian Schwartz is washed up, doesn’t make any sense generally.

But especially because Ian has a tribal tattoo (what a great trend that was), tight pants, v-neck shirts, slammed stripped seat, pegless, freecoaster, etc, etc…

As if Ian doesn’t follow trends…

I don’t care either way but think before type, come on.

  41. so hes quiting to becoming a farmer

  42. i hope he’s gonna do something more then grow corn/soy bean/ red wheat on those 17 acres, cause that wont pay for nothing.

  43. wheres the weeeed at?

  44. hes growing pot. clearly.

  45. noooooooooooo! ian! noooooo!:( im pissed now godamit…….. ihope he comes back.

  46. were gunna miss you bro. best wishes

  47. now thats how you go out with style.

  48. :””””’(

  49. corey bohan is on sunday

  50. damn Ian

why quit you could of done interactively on facebook

  51. CHARLIE CRUMLISH SHOULD BE ON SUNDAY PRO and everyone knows this. Crumlish was better than Ian 5 years ago and sure is today.

  52. Nooo. I’m gonna miss seeing footage of this guy. Big fan of his riding. Good luck, man.

  53. dude was bad, love his riding. bumbed cant see any more

  54. Can I have your old poverty free coaster?

  55. he sure went out with a bang though, his sunday part(s) was AMAZING there is so much progression in that section to last for the next ten years.

  56. thats pretty wild

  57. Ian, thanks for all of the motivation the years, but most importantly thank you for staying true to yourself and riding the way you wanted to. I think many people would agree that you sections are ahead of there time and that you have done a lot for the sport of bmx. Good luck, and hope to see a few clips at least in the future.

  58. The pursuit of knowledge can drive a man insane. The pursuit of happiness can lead a man to internal happiness. I would rather be Ian sitting on a farm looking at one of the greatest accomplishments then be a faggot with tight pants wondering what Garrett Reynolds will do next. Ian I think you have reached what the most intelligent men call happiness. Congrats Sir.

  60. goodluck dood ur still my fav rider nd that will never change

  61. you mother fuckers act like he just died. he doesnt want to be a professional anymore big deal im sure hes going to still ride his bike and have a fun life chill

  62. good luck man. best rider EVER!

  63. this will catch on like every other new trend ian sets :’)

  64. good luck ian!
you´ve done a lot for bmx!

  65. Good luck dude!

I met Ian once and I have to say that this doesn’t surprise me. He is an intelligent guy who knows he can do many things with his life. I wish him only the best.

  66. good luck, ian. glad to see someone that realises there’s more to life than bmx.

  67. this one almost got as much comments as the “who’s got the best tables in bmx?”

  68. Stay away from GMO’s Ian.

  69. I would be psyched eating a meal with all food grown by one of the greatest bmx:ers of all time.

  70. very respectable move

  71. Hope there still will be time for some riding and filming in the future from this amazing guy!

  72. to the guy that said ian follows trends, ian created all the trends you just named, learn who created what, the rest are followers. best luck goes out to ian, he was ahead of our time, like it or not he was the reason alot of you ride the way you do. columbus has produced talented riders, but seems even smarter people.

  73. our dream is finllay coming true, for now on SUNDAY will be for church and tending to are tomato plants.

  74. who is this guy?

  75. Cheers man, good luck in your new job and thanks for everything you did for bmx

  76. Good luck ian! you were awesome and inspired me

  77. Farming is to grass, doesn’t count sorry Ian, you taught us that one.

  78. why not really. nothing weird about that

  79. its about time companys stopped paying some fuckin bum that cant ride a fuckin bike. this dudes a clown brought the real hardy hardy of riding out of the game fuckin kook. fruit booter on two wheels. are you kidding me hes been couch surfing for 10 years its in his interview in ride about him bein a fucking bum a drain on soceity and his family lets him “lease” 17 acres?????? fuckin SPODE!!!!!!!!!

  80. Nothin but playground bitches here. Ian brought a new concept to the freecoaster riding scene and stitched a pegless element to it too. He had a unique way of riding and pretty much came up with that 1 thing that you’d never think of doing. Good luck with the farming thing man. Fuck the faceless bitchers.

  81. BARNYARD EDIT! donkey hops and chicken gaps! fakie turkey plants to half cab barley plant! GONNA BE EPIC

  82. ian is a very inspirational rider to me
