New NYC Skatepark.

by adam on 03/22/10

Darren sent over this link to a photo of a new skatepark that is apparently opening in July in Flushing, Queens. What makes this so interesting is that the whole skatepark consists of replicas of NYC street spots that for the most part you either can’t ride or that are now total busts. I guess depending on your perspective this is either an awesome idea or totally lame. Should be interesting.

  1. Why would this be totally lame? Fag

  2. I think this is a great idea. It takes a bunch of already fun obsticles and puts them in one place with no bust. As long as bikes are allowed, how could this be lame? Unless you’ve decided that all skate parks are lame a long time ago.

    • I guess if you don’t ride street, it wouldn’t cross your mind that this is kind of a strange concept. The city taking a bunch of spots that were always illegal to ride and re-creating them in a skatepark setting is just kind of weird. Why not build a normal skatepark instead of trying to recreate things that they’ve already torn down or stopped us from riding.

    • i understand what you’re trying to say adam, but try and keep an open mind man. maybe for once they’re trying to think of what we want..

    • the most awesome thing about this skatepark is that you can pratice some great moves on this shit and then go to the streets, pull it 1st try and film.
However i can see your point adam, street is street, park is park.

    • Do you actually think the city consul or w/e can tell the difference between a “skatepark” vs a “street style park” Don’t blame NY, if anything hate on the designer.

I still think its pretty awesome idea though

  3. maybe its to show that they actually care. maybe they are trying to show you that they know these spots are new york signature spots, and want to keep it real. seems pretty legit to me. actually it seems like a great idea. at least they didnt say “hey here’s some quarterpipes now go learn a bunch of tailwhips and footjams.” two points for new york keeping it real for the streets.

  4. It’s a street plaza. 1.8 mill to ride street spots that already existed, they could have just paid to let people ride that real ones.

  5. How fucking stupid is it to make replicas of street spots. I enjoy my tickets and police. Watever you land there doesnt count cause Its not true street. Its just making it easier for wanna-be’s to ride. Soo retarded, for park fags who now are gonna think they can ride street.

I’ll stick to tickets and busts cause it keeps my rep as a street rider. Hell id rather them kick me out of everyspot I roll up on and not get a hit in before going there. Keep it real. I’d rather them tare down all the spots around town and never get to ride it again. Keeps my o.g. status repping to the fullest seeing as I rode it and noone can again.

Thats wat bmx is about right? Keeping my o.g. gangsta status?

Fuck fun and no hassels. I’d rather be hassled like a mother fucker, then I can throw in a clip of me talking back to security or doing a trick in front of them, Real gangsta shit nigga.

  6. I’m psyched to have something to ride this close to home. With the Mets playing right next door I can see myself spending lots of time in Flushing this summer.

  7. great idea but this shit is gonna be packed by skaters.so its whack

  8. How Long till Brian Kachinsky does the entire outside rail?

  9. innoculate bmx and skateboarding. One more reason why cops can arrest you for riding the original ” just go to the replicas!”. one reason finding something to ride on street is so fun is precisely because it wasn’t manufactured for the express purpose of bike riding or skateboarding. when you make something like this the replica loses the essence of the original even if all the angles are exactly the same. not saying that it would’t be fun to ride.

  10. first off how do we know bikes are allowed? i gotta say that the creativity is impressive and no matter where you are, adding another skatepark/plaza to the mix or things to ride is a good thing. yes, it will get really crowded some days, so does owls head, the banks, etc. personally i welcome this and cant wait to ride it

  11. how is a new skate park ever a lame idea? your so middle of the road about the dumbest things

  12. See. This is a skate park!

  13. The parks of maloof money cup always get torn down after the contest

    • not this one… in the newspaper article it said that after the contest it would stay up as a donation to the nyc parks department.

  14. Only problem I see with this concept, is that it will also be child friendly, so you’ll get 8 year olds being dropped off there by their parents, who will just sit on the rails or ledges not knowing what to do, and getting in the way or killed constantly because they have no concept of linked lines. I can see alot of people doing grind to manual to grind links, and having a little kid get in the way during the manual, and someone blowing up and throwing their bike, or board, at the kids. Then the parents and police will say, the little kids have more right to be there than the people who actually use it, thats what I hate about skateparks lately, even though i mainly ride park. The thing with street, is you dont have naive little kids to dodge, usually the shit is off the road so you dont have to worry about cars when your actually doing a line, and security guards you should be able to smell a mile away, and just beat them up if they harrass you. By the time cops come for backup, you should be gone anyways, so at least fuck the security up so they think twice, thats what I do at least.

    • BTW I actually like the look of this spot, lots of fun shit, if it happens I will take note for when I come over to the east.

    • Every post I read by this guy makes him sound like a cunt. First he’s banging on about black riders and now he’s advocating kicking the shit out of people for doing their jobs. Go fuck yourself.

    • Agreed. Johan, you’re emblematic of all the people on the internet who think that the ability to post their opinions legitimizes them. Try getting published in a newspaper, you daft cunt.

    • JOHAN GO AWAY YOU JUST GOT ABSOLUTELY OWNED

  15. i could see people practicing shit in this park all day and then just go out on the streets to film the same tricks at the same spot for a video part, that would be kinda funny haha

  16. pooor design. if they put a massive quarter pipe at the bottom of it itd be alright since atleast itd have a bit of flow to it.

  17. if thats a skatepark, where are the ramps?

  18. looks so much like the park in Austin Tx. just missing a bowl section.

  19. HOOD HAPPY NEW PARK BITCHES

  20. I thought it was funny that “California Skateparks” was building a park in Flushing recreating NYC street spots.

  21. skate plazas are so much more dope than skateparks

  22. MR SMITH IS GONNA GET HIS GRIND ON NIGGA

  23. this is a good idea as long as bikes are allowed n if not then the NYC parks department can suck a dick once again

  24. its just hella stairs

  25. dammit why isn’t this it just endless tranny, and the same repetitive nonsense.

I mean how am I supposed to ride down those stairs god dammit

  26. looks a kinda tight and small.

but clean.even tho they dont realy look like the spots there trying to name.

  27. isn’t it pronounced “frushing”?

  28. now we wont have to ride all over nyc to go to different spots

  29. damn just stop bitching. all of yu!!. at least yu have ah new skatepark or whatever yu want to call it. yu dont have to fucking ride it if yu dont want to!!!
