I just got tipped off to some censorship that Ride UK worked on a Dan Lacey interview in their new issue. Here’s the question as it was originally asked and answered:
“How long have you been riding for Federal?
Since I turned down the opportunity to ride for 4Down and Ian Morris told me i burnt my bridges in BMX…… so roughly around 4 amazing years! I’d like to dedicate my frame to Ian.”
But here’s how it actually went to print:
“How long have you been riding for Federal?
Roughly around 4 amazing years!”
Dan’s not stoked:

So the next time you’re reading Ride UK and wondering why it’s so dreadfully boring, keep this kind of censorship in mind. Props to Dan for having the guts to say something.
Related, Ride UK informed me a few months ago that they weren’t going to be printing a rider bio I wrote or running an interview with me about my new parts company, because I “dismiss printed magazines as a valid form of media in today’s bmx world” despite the fact that as recently as December I was praying that no BMX magazines went under.
My advice? Next time you see Ride UK on the shelf, save your money. Look for Ride to attempt to milk this post for some page views within the next 48 hours, God knows they need the help.
