Endsearch
is Josh Harrington's new video. The line up is pretty unique, it's got
known shredders like Josh Harrington and Rob Darden who have held down
serious video parts in the past, plus dudes I don't know too much about
like Will Love and Ty Morrow, then it's also got dudes like Dave
Dilleward and Nyquist who are mostly thought of as contest dudes. I
couldn't blame anyone if they had reservations about buying a video
with a line up of dudes who reside in Greenville and ride contests, but
ever since this video premiered I've heard nothing but good
things.
Josh Harrington has the first part and he it
might also be the best part. Dude does everything you can think of down
rails, a bunch of crazy grinds to hop over barspins and his ender is
seriously one of the craziest things I've ever seen. Hint: It involves
a roof drop. Rob Darden has the next section and it's also pretty good,
he does a lot of good stuff and jumps probably one of the farthest,
fastest gaps I've seen. I wasn't quite as into Will Love's section, he
does a lot of good stuff and is undeniably a really good rider but a
lot of the clips felt a little stock after Josh and Darden's
parts.
The friends section is really good. Biz has a
lot of clips in it and they are all really good, some in particular are
totally out of hand. Garrett Reynolds has a lot of good stuff too, and
Spinner even makes an appearance ( 180 whip to backwards manual to 540
cab, geez ). Ty Morrow's part is really dope, he's got real good style
and does trucks and 540s off of everything. He barspins and 180s off of
some really huge sets of stairs too. Dave Dilleward's part had a lot of
trails and park footage in the middle, but he finishes the video with
the biggest icepick 270 and footjam whips I've ever seen and a
terrifyingly big 180 ( after which he reveals that he has a really,
really large mouth ).
Nyquist finishes the video off
and with good reason. His intro shows him either drunk or really acting
like he's drunk, driving a car with "no homo" painted on the side and
he even says "street is good". Is this a whole new Ryan??? Not really,
but he definitely has a bunch of new tricks up his sleeve. Nyquist is
in his own world and it shows with some of the stuff he does - an
entire dirt run done with his bars backwards, supermans to barspin,
fakie double barspins and a barspin flair for example - and his brother
Shea even shows up with some really good clips of his own. He then
proceeds to take the double barspin - and then the double truck driver
- to the streets. His ender is one of the most bizarre things I've ever
seen. Dude gets a lot of respect from me because he is already stupid
rich and obviously only did any of the shit in his part because he felt
like it.
Overall Endsearch is a really enjoyable
video that never drags on and has enough crazy bangers to leave anyone
satisfied. Buy it here.

Life? is Ted Van Orman's new project. It's not what I would quite call a magazine ( there's not much writing and less than 30 pages long with no advertising ) but it's a bit more than a traditional zine, since it's full sized and in color. The focus of Life? is definitely on trails, with lots of photos of of tables, turndowns and tucks from lesser known riders, along with a few more well known dudes mixed in there. Some of the few words used focus on the experience of building and riding trails. There are also quite a few street and park photos too, including a few gems of Steven Hamilton. Life? is a simple project that doesn't make any bold claims and focuses on the simple pleasures of bike riding, which is something we could probably all benefit from being reminded of from time to time. When you think about the best BMX videos of all time, not a lot of them were put together by local bike shops. But with dudes like Fuzzy, Mike Aitken and Matt Berringer on their team, 50/50's new video definitely bucks that trend. Here's a quick part by part run down with my overall thoughts at the end:
Dave Thompson - This dude has been getting his name out there lately... Clips in the Season road trip DVD, a bio in Ride... And now he's got a killer video part too. He does a crazy hard 180 over a rail, a pole jam to hard whip and a bunch of wild 3's. There were like 10 clips in a row I thought were probably going to be his banger. Dude's sick.
Tate Roskelley - This guy's got a totally unique style of riding, and I mean that in a completely good way. He rides his bike on a chain ( gotta see it ), does rail rides in the rain and finds a way to ride a swinging gate that nobody else would ever think to ride. You'll definitely want to rewind a bunch of clips in this part to figure out what he just did.
Elf - Elf is probably the main reason I wanted to see this video besides Aitken. He's always been one of my favorite dudes to see riding from. He may not be the smoothest rider out there but he rides with a lot of heart and nowhere is that more evident in this part than his last clip, probably the worst possible icepick rail I could ever imagine doing it and he somehow manages to get it done. The whole part rules, I can't wait to see his Shook part.
Cameron Wood - This part is great. He does a bunch of unbelievably big stuff as you would expect as well as some small quirky lines that were really cool too. In his last clip he tries something pretty wild and gets broke doing it and they show him on crutches ( like Stricker's part in Grounded ). I feel like they could have just left that shot out though, because he does a ton of great stuff in this part, so it's not like he needs any excuse.
Rob Wise - Another awesome section. The main clip that stands out is a jump over icepick to 270 back over to fakie on a bank to rail... I'm not sure if I consider this part better than his Left Right part, but he does a ton of amazing things either way.
Matt Berringer - Matt's always going to entertain in any video he has a part in. Tons of weird shit plus some deadman tricks. His last couple of clips are things that were in the magazines about a year ago ( remember his Ride cover? ) but they both seem much crazier seeing the footage.
Fuzzy - Fuzzy is still killing it. Great intro, great song and great riding. Somewhat short, but whatever.
Mike Aitken - Mike's one of my favorite riders, and this part is probably his best part is just sick. Loads of uprail and nose manual variations... Just lots of crazy Aitken-esque moves. Last trick is so deadly.
Mixed in with the sections I just named are a few shorter rider parts and some mixes. The video is slightly long but never really drags since the riding is so good. They probably could have made the video flow a little bit better by cutting out some stuff, but it's not too noticeable. The music is a mix of rap mash-ups ( Beanie Sigel, Clipse etc ) with some rock in there. The overall feel of the video is sort of odd, with some weird deviations from the norm in the footage and editing departments, which isn't a bad thing. It's got a very unique feel but I mean that in a good way.
Overall, to put it simply, this video is epic as fuck and I definitely reccomend it. Go pick it up either on the 50/50 site or right here.
Video starts off with a parody of NBC's The Office, which I like because I'm a huge fan of the show, but I think I remember Charlie saying he hates the show, so while it is a good intro, his taste in TV shows is questionable.
First part is a mix section featuring a bunch of Jim C clips, which are all pretty good, as any footage from Jim usually is, then some other mixed in clips from a bunch of other guys. Next part is this kid Greg Henry. He has a pretty expressive face, like he looks like he would make a good comedian or something. I could definitely picture him telling a joke and myself laughing at the joke. I could see him being the kind of guy where if he met an alien he would probably have sex with it. Anyway his part is pretty good especially since he seems like kind of a funny dude, usually when kids are funny they aren't that good at riding, and a lot of the time the best riders are the dudes who have absolutely no social skills.
Ben Freedman has the next part. Kid kind of reminds me of Ojay Juarez ( I don't know why I'm even mentioning that since like 4 people reading this know who that is ). He could stand to go a lot faster, it's sort of hard to watch him ride since he creeps at almost everything. He has some cool lines regardless including a bunch of those crossbar grab manuals which seem really hard.
Following that, is a part from Bob Edson. Mostly trails, lots of weird lines at the trails. One youknowwhat, also at the trails.
Sasquatch: This kid posts on BMXBoard, which I know from reading the thread about this video on there. He was bummed on the music choice used, which is sort of understandable. I can see why they call this guy Sasquatch, he kind of resembles a big hairy Big Foot who lives in the woods. What's the difference between a Sasquatch and Big Foot anyway?
Greg D'amico: Catfish is in the intro to this kid's part and he pronounces BMXFU as if it was some sort of karate, like BMX Fu. Like FU as if it was a word and not an acronym. I always thought it was just an acronym. I don't know who to believe. This kid is pretty good, has good style and does a very manly kinked rail.
Next part is Jeff Evans. This kid had some shit in the Peg Leg video, I really like how he rides. He's got really good barspins and his banger involves a kickflip and is awesome.
The other day my cat Tony walked into the living room with his little toy cat nip carrot that we got him on the day we got him, and he put it on the ground, then started kicking dirt onto it ( I mean there wasn't any dirt on the ground but he was motioning as if there was, like what cats do when they take a shit ). Then he laid down on it to protect his carrot. I thought it was really funny and confusing, like I know it's some sort of weird primal thing but I don't know what the fuck he thought the carrot was. I decided to write about this because I couldn't think of anything good to write about the next 3 parts in the video from this kid Jordan, Brad Hill ( whenever I see that dude's name I momentarily think that it says Greg Hill, like that racer dude ), and one other guy. The cat story was all I could think about and I just had to get it out there.
Charlie Crumlish has the next part. Charlie's web videos over the years have always been pretty controversial, some people love them and some people vocally hate them. He's got a very different outlook on riding than most people, in that he's always exploring what you could possibly do on a bike, and he's pretty consistently documented this. Some of the stuff he's come up with sort of bypasses traditional "rules" in BMX that most people abide by. It feels like with this section he's sort of come full circle. He does some stuff that is considered more "normal" but with his own weird twists... Clips in particular that I really liked include a really good feeble on a round rail with a long kink to 180 and a manual to 180 backwards smith to 360. For some reason I'm sort of proud of him even though I don't know him because this part turned out really good. Probably the best part in the video.
Charlie's little brother Bud has a part after Charlie's... I feel kind of weird and old watching this because I remember watching videos in which this kid was like unable to bunnyhop a few years ago. He's come a long way, good for him.
Last part goes to Lee Dennis. Lee is super good and shuts the video down pretty good so that Charlie didn't have to get all Rick Moliterno and give himself the last section in the video.
This is a good video, obviously it's not meant to be taken super seriously and there is a big disparity in terms of how good the riders with parts are, but the end result is a fun video with some innovative and often awesome riding. If you want to pick it up, hit up the Paypal link on the BMXFU Myspace.
I got the 4Down video in the mail a couple of weeks ago and kept forgetting to watch it until this afternoon. Here are ten things I liked about it:
1) Montage section featuring a bunch of classic footage of Boyley from over the years. Rest in peace...
2)Tom Blythe is in effect. He's got a ton of sick barspin moves and all his footage is great which almost makes me want to forgive him for saying that a busdriver is worse than a frame whip ( he seriously said that! ).
3) Fids.
4) Ryan Metro is one of the best riders out right now and he has a bunch of good clips. He does an icepick grind to fakie on a sub box in a pool, so good.
5) Oh yeah, Tom Blythe does an amazing manual to 360 you gotta see.
6) Some dude does a double barspin air on a bank on street. That's seriously sick.
7) Ben Lewis jumps over something, to manual to 180 down a big double set. He also does a bunch of other really good things in the rain, his part is real good.
8) Marv. Marv rules and so does that Benson dude.
9) Scott Ditchburn is a gorilla, he has some really good lines. And he does a great 180 crook down a rail. He also does the Ruben shark-fin gap. Not in his part, in the credits. That thing is still really crazy.
10) This video is just really good in general, the riding is great, the music is good ( one of the songs in here is definitely in The Come Up DVD, weird coincidence since it's like 10 years old ) and it's pretty much just 30 minutes of solid street with some skatepark and trails mixed in too featuring a large percentage of the best riders from the UK along with a few Americans. I definitely recommend it although I have no clue where US customers can buy this thing since Dans, Empire and Albes all don't seem to have it, but if you're a Euro, Alans has it.
Complaints: Not many really. Some of the footage quality is less than great but most of it is pretty decent. Oh and it wouldn't play on my Playstation, but did play on my computer.
