Kyle Stark’s S&M & Shadow Reviews.

siskel_ebert
When I heard that Kyle Stark (ie; twincitiesbmx on BMX Board) was going to be doing video reviews for Dig, I was happy. I had numerous disagreements with Kyle during my tenure on BMX Board, but at least he’s got an opinion and I figured we’d finally be seeing some actual opinions in a BMX magazine. I was wrong, because Dig refused to print his negative reviews of the S&M and Shadow videos. I understand that every magazine is struggling to pay the bills these days, but come on, it’s not that serious. Shadow and S&M help me pay the bills every month and even though I’m posting links to Kyle’s reviews, I doubt I’ll have angry Emails in my inbox from Moeller or Ronnie tomorrow. I might not necessarily agree with these reviews, but I respect that Kyle has an opinion on them.

Check the S&M review here, the Shadow review here and check the corresponding BMX Board thread here.

those reviews were spot on im my opinion. DIG needs to grow some BALLS before they end up like RideBMX or BMXPLUS!

  • glynp

i would buy mags if they had real reviews like these. its these real review (not sucking up ass reviews) that i feel will push for better videos and products

  • Bink

Holy shit that picture is hilarious.

  • http://www.saundersstudio.com Chris Saunders

I was Psyched when i heard kyle was doing this. Its BS that they didnt run it.

  • sixtiesrider

Good reviews, I feel he said what the good and the bad were. A little on strong side in the intro’s but at least he is being honest. Makes me want to get my hands on a shadow video. Reviews never keep me from buying a dvd they are just a better paragraph than a one sided view on the back of the box. Thanks Kyle!

  • gregrides

first he bitched that the S&M bangers were too drawn out and then he bitches that the shadow bangers were too rushed and he likes to see the spot before and after each banger so he can fully appreciate it.
    dude’s kinda nit-picky.
before i read the reviews i thought it was lame that dig didnt print the reviews simply b/c they’re negative but after reading them i thought maybe they werent printed bc they read like they were written by a 12 year old.
thats one of the things thats killing bmx magazines: they take themselves and their “who gives a fuck?” opinion way too seriously.
lighted up kid, make a few jokes, tell a funny story that has little to do with the video and then loop in the video in the last few sentences but please dont go thru every section of a video and tell us what u didnt like about it…that kinda shit belongs on a blog, not a magazine. good call DIG.
honestly, who read that review more than once?
    it sucked.

  • adam

Larry these are both your ex-sponsors no wonder you liked the reviews… hahahaha just saying/just kidding.

  • sean

I honestly didn’t see anything above average in the writing of those reviews. Nothing that I’ve seen Tunney do a lot better in the past. It almost seemed like the author was deliberately trying to go against the grain, deliberately trying to slate both videos as opposed to Tunney’s near constant praise, especially when he was talking about the subjective music choice in Into The Void, music which will appeal to a lot of riders.

  • Chris Duncan Clothing

larry do you want to ride for Chris Duncan Clothing? also look out for Chris Duncan Clothing dvd coming soon!

  • http://anythingbutthecomeup hoodward

noone gives a fuck what you or kyle think…. get over yourselves

  • kyle stark

haha. lighten up people, not all writing needs to sound sophisticated.

  • jeremypavia

I (as an one of the editors of a BMX magazine) have to say that even though some reviews seem lame to other people it is because you didn’t write it. It is the same as having a conversation with someone and disagreeing with them, you don’t want to hear what they have to say. There is a fine line between writing a review on a DVD and telling the entire BMX world that the DVD absolutely sucked and writing a review that makes the DVD sound like the next Hollywood Blockbuster. It is something that is learned and does help the entire industry. If everything was based off of people being honest and negative BMX would be gone before we know it. As lame as it sounds, it helps riding overall to be positive and promote things in a good light. Remember now children, we are talking about BMX here, which if you need to be reminded is people riding around on little kids bikes.

  • snugglepie

kyle stark is a joke to bmx!!!

  • bobandy

does every BMX magazine need to be marketed towards children? I get tired of the negative bullshit as well, but I don’t mind the occasional dose of honesty.

  • Richard Hertz

who the fuck is kyle stark and who gives a flying fuck?

  • Ben snowden

Kyle stark is a cum chugging faggot.

  • nobody

how do you not know who kyle stark is?? he’s the creator of several timeless bmx classics such as “dilly in the dessert” and “it do”. these videos have been a major source of inspiration to all future BMX videographers proving that literally anyone with camera and a copy of imovie can make uninspiring videos of there friends riding bikes at an intermediate level.

  • gregrides

no one said it needed to be sophisticated.
it just has to be worth reading, esp if you want to sell mags.
like i said it was good for a blog, sucked for print.

  • animalcollective

so basicallly those sarcastics bombs you are dropping are in a way complimenting the work that was put into the reviewed videos whilst , of course, talking smack about the reviewer. nice. i feel kyle was not being critical enough. both the shadow and s&m videos did not look any better than the average web video that is put on this site, except they had the more popular names in front of the camera. i seriously do not understand how in this day and age bmx companies can put out garbage like this. lets say we get a maximum of 10-12 company-produced videos per year (and that is being optimistic) .. how come 11 are still filmed in sd, with twenty different non-professional guys behind the camera who i feel are just there to point and shoot and let the tricks do the talking (which i guess was ok 5 years ago). how come they are edited as though premiere is still at version 1.0 or less, and after effects does not even exist…. i mean, the only video last year that i felt was truly professional was the levis video: great, consistent camera work, simple but effective editing, good choice of music, etc. i really fear for the fit video because it seems that once again it is done all over the place – marco will film this with his camera, darryl will film this with his camera, etc etc. and the upcoming sunday video? or should i say electronical the return of the man who gets a 90% bike-filled frame aka chad shack or some chad shack wannabe? i know what ive dribbled is a mess, but it would take a couple of pages to formulate it in an orderly fashion. my compliments to james cox, marco svizzero, will stroud, recent justin kosman stuff, obviously joe simon and also ryan navazio.

  • Chris Duncan Clothing

your dvd was dog shit so how can you talk crap?

  • e

    1. that review was terribly badly written
    2. i thought the s and m video absolutely kicked ass, it was one of the best to come out last year.for once it wasnt about insane trendy shit(which is also enjoyable, in regulated doses).i watched it on a cold winter night and it got me super stoked on bmx.only disappointing part was strickers section, every good trick had a foot down and the banger was reused

  • e

ps. i hated the shadow video, but thats just a personal opinion, cause i hate that music and the suicidal scketchy riding

  • word

both vids sucked. i’d rather watch forward again. the articles were shit. the contennt was good but the writer has NO skill. adam 22 writes better than that. you should not hire someone to write if they do not have a writing background or an associates in journalism or english. at least a summer writing course please.
p.s. this was not intended to have proper grammar or punctuation. please lay off the gay-ass, critical comments containing corrections.

  • word

i also by no means ment that adam is or ever will be a good writer.

  • the dick

“how do you not know who kyle stark is?? he’s the creator of several timeless bmx classics such as “dilly in the dessert” and “it do”. these videos have been a major source of inspiration to all future BMX videographers proving that literally anyone with camera and a copy of imovie can make uninspiring videos of there friends riding bikes at an intermediate level.”
    LOL!

  • sean

True, it does need to not suck however.

  • scam

    chris duncan lol!!!

  • Durkadoodles

The music AKA Adolescents,Circle Jerks,Black Flag, Youth of Today was pretty refreshign cause I love all those bands and its cool to see a non artsy fag indie song or dance song in a fuckin video..SUPER REFRESHING..but into the void sucked dick. Chase Deharts part is 1:50 long and then you got the biggest fag in all of bmx rigth after sharign the part with the lamest tricks…FUCK…TERRIBLE.

  • sandbagger

All the team dilly-do videos are utter shit. Kyle, seriously man up already and admit that dig fired your sorry ass after they found out how terrible your videos were, as well as how the only editing program you know how to use is imovie. Seriously you are a fucking joke.

  • OH MY FUCKING GOD

What the fuck is going on in BMX. Why the fuck would DIG hire someone who’s greatest accomplishment in life is editing a few local scene videos on iMovie? Seriously what a slap in the face to all of us who have ever put work in on a major BMX video. You know the guys learning how to use real editing software and spending a fortune on equipment. The guys spending cash on taking people on trips. On top of all of those who put in years at school to be, you know, qualified to even speak on the subject of how a video should be made. Those same guys who would realize how much someone actually put into a video, to give it a proper review and not have small dick syndrome in writing.

    What utter fucking garbage.

Next your going to tell me MotorTrend is going to have kids who built a fucking soap box derby car with their dad, reviewing cars and telling the car designers how they should have built a car. I am pretty sure DIG pulled this only for the fact that any serious video editor would have lost all respect for them had they run it. That and possibly the fact that this dudes writing skills parallel a 5th grader in learning disability classes. How funny he claims on BMXboard his desired intent was comedy. Clearly on further showing how horrible of a writer he is.

I love how butt hurt he is on the BMXboard forums. I wonder if he’s having the same feelings of all the people he constantly rips apart, for no reason other than to be a dickless little shit. Seriously funny how he has a little power trip from all of his little “friends” on BMXboard building him up. The guys who think he’s a somebody cause he’s in their little private club and he made a video. I’m glad you finally expressed your feelings to the outside world. I’m also glad they told you how worthless your opinion is.

Here’s an idea, you ride a bike right? Why don’t you go tell all the frame manufacturers how they should be doing things. I mean obviously you’re qualified since you ride around on a bike. You’re clearly a professional frame builder in the making.

Why don’t you stop being a smug little shit, who gets off on trying to get a rise out of people by being a negative bitch, and go do something productive. My first suggestion would be to learn something besides iMovie.

This comes from someone who made some of your favorite videos.

Show some fucking respect to others. The world is not yours to tear apart. Especially because you’ve never done anything outside of talk shit on a message board.

  • kyle stark

    hahahaha.

i use adobe premiere, faggot. and yeah i’m the butthurt one while you’re busy posting essays about how i shouldn’t deserve to write anything.

you’re all a bunch of pussies.

  • Check it out fellas.

“The world is not yours to tear apart”? Are you fucking kidding me? Jesus christ, I’ve never seen someone write such completely overblown dramatic shit over things written on a bmx blog. Lighten the fuck up, you’re really not that important.

P.S. Kyle’s reviews weren’t all rejected, it’s just that these two were left out of issue #70. Suck it.

  • OH MY FUCKING GOD

Uh oh here comes the butt hurt brigade.

  • OH MY FUCKING GOD

Have you read this negative little bitches posts on BMXboard. Everything he says is trying to shred someone else.

Apparently he hates being on the other end.

  • snugglepie

why dont you tell the real reason you got fired fag cuz it seems to make me laugh everytime i hear it

  • hal needham

“i use adobe premiere, faggot. and yeah i’m the butthurt one while you’re busy posting essays about how i shouldn’t deserve to write anything.”

the fact that you use adobe premiere shows that you know next to nothing about video production. not to mention that you never even “worked” for dig. maybe you should consider focusing a little more on improving your crappy little web edits instead of overanalyzing other peoples work.
I respect you voicing your opinion but don’t be surprised when the world thinks you’re a douche.

  • http://Website Ben Snowden

I love that people pretend to be me. I’m sorry, I don’t know Kyle but I don’t think he chugs cum.
