When I went out to England this past September, aside from drinking until I almost died and laughing at Mike Taylor’s jokes til I puked, I got to meet Scott Summerhayes, the owner of Crucial BMX. I was pretty impressed that someone in their early 20’s had started a bike shop and mail order that in 3 short years had already taken over such a large part of the mail order business in England. Even more impressive was how big the BMX scene was in Bristol where Crucial is located. It was a pretty clear sign of how much a local shop can do to make BMX bigger. A few weeks later, Scott hit me up and told me he wanted to carry The Come Up’s shirt line overseas and I was obviously stoked on that. Keith Mulligan’s got an interview up on ESPN about the future of print, specifically relating to his job as editor of Ride magazine. Or maybe more importantly, if they do, will that money even be enough to matter? I can’t call it, but it should be interesting to see how things play out.
Female BMXer Nina Buitrago has an interview on ESPN. I’m going to put all you guys on the honor system here and just assume nobody is going to say anything sexist or derogatory in the comments because that is like, really wrong and shit, y’know.
Tom Dugan has made quite a name for himself over the past few months with some new sponsorships, some awesome webvideos and some wild drama inducing antics. I hit him up to hopefully find out more. Continue reading TCU Exclusive: Tom Dugan Interview. >
The other KP has a nicely detailed bike check up on Ride as well as some questions where he talks about his signature Shadow seat, upcoming signature free-coaster hub with Shadow, and more.
Rich Hirsch of Lotek has an interview up here on ESPN. Above is a random clip of Rich doing a long ass edger, clearly heavily influenced by The Come Up’s pro team. I heard the upcoming *** DVD might have a clip or two of Rich but those rumors are yet to be confirmed.
