KMC Chain Review.

Kurt put up a review of the new KMC chain. DK made a splash with their version of this same idea a month or two ago, but KHE apparently got it out first. Taiwan makes the world go ’round. You want my opinion? No offense to DK or KMC, but this entire concept is retarded and useless anyway.

TCU Official “Stay Fit” Review.

by adam on 12/02/09

FIT VIDEOSA-M FIT STAY FIT VIDEO
The past few months have been an interesting case study in the possible ways to promote a video. In one corner you have Mutiny and their “Let’s Get Mystical” which not a word was said about prior to it’s release aside from an epic web video that shook the world. Did the video deliver? Hell yeah it did. But it also benefited from an almost total lack of expectations. Very few people even knew the video was coming, so when it ended up kicking ass, it was extra sweet.

In the other corner we have Fit who some would say over-promoted their new video with an unbelievable series of 30 weekly web videos leading up to it’s release. Fit most certainly profited from this approach in some ways (a shitload of free internet press every week not to mention the literal profits from the ads they plastered all over their Youtube channel) but it also created an unprecedented level of hype for the final product. And the internet has made it clear: a lot of you are mad at Stay Fit. What do I think? Walk with me.

Mutiny’s “Let’s Get Mystical” Review.

by adam on 09/15/09

mystical
In the era of maximum DVD promotion (see: Fit’s 30 web video strong Youtube series), Mutiny took a completely different approach by keeping almost completely silent about their latest video, Let’s Get Mystical up until approximately a month before it’s release (when they released this very memorable trailer). DVD’s are all about promotion these days (since most companies sure as hell aren’t making a profit on them anymore), so why would Mutiny give up on the opportunity for loads of free press in the months leading up to this DVD’s release? They certainly didn’t take that route with the release of their last DVD, Stoked On Being Pumped… you can ask the guy from Tony Hawk’s Boom Boom Room Bikes who had to scrape dozens of SOBP stickers off their bikes at Interbike ‘07 about that. But as it turns out, Mutiny didn’t take the beaten path in many ways for the release of this video, and it paid off.

The AOTC DVD (which you can buy here) received a favorable review recently on BMX Union but today received a much less favorable review on Swagger On Mars. Go read both, buy the DVD, and make your decision.

Kyle Stark’s S&M & Shadow Reviews.

by adam on 05/05/09

When I heard that Kyle Stark (ie; twincitiesbmx on BMX Board) was going to be doing video reviews for Dig, I was happy. I had numerous disagreements with Kyle during my tenure on BMX Board, but at least he’s got an opinion and I figured we’d finally be seeing some actual opinions in a BMX magazine. I was wrong, because Dig refused to print his negative reviews of the S&M and Shadow videos. I understand that every magazine is struggling to pay the bills these days, but come on, it’s not that serious. Shadow and S&M help me pay the bills every month and even though I’m posting links to Kyle’s reviews, I doubt I’ll have angry Emails in my inbox from Moeller or Ronnie tomorrow. I might not necessarily agree with these reviews, but I respect that Kyle has an opinion on them.

Check the S&M review here, the Shadow review here and check the corresponding BMX Board thread here.

BMX Union has a good review of the new BMXFU DVD, FUTU up. If you haven’t yet, go buy it from The Come Up web store! It’s so good that someone at the post office ripped open the envelope full of DVD’s that Charlie sent me the other day and stole one!

Alex put up a pretty solid review of the video right here. You can check out the trailers again or if you missed them for some weird reason after the jump.

Kink “Safety First” review.

by adam on 12/20/08

First off, it’s worth mentioning that Kink’s 3rd offering is drastically more solid than their previous 2 releases, which feels weird to even write because KC withstanding, there are no similarities between the team in Safety First and the team in their first 2 videos. For many years now, people have wondered what was going on with Kink. After a pair of unpopular videos and huge team cuts a few years back the brand seemed to flounder. Over the last year or so however there have been big changes with heavy-weights like Sean Sexton and Chris Doyle being added to the team. So understandably, there is a lot of pressure on Kink to put out a video that represents their brand properly.
