Here David Grant, Nick Summerlot and some friends ride and seem to have a good time doing it. A pleasant edit with an early spring feel to it. One guy has a crazy style on ramps and the last clip is utterly amazing. I’m not saying just fast forward to the last clip, but do that if you must.

Check out a full run down of David Grant’s BSD Forever over on DIG Daily. Maybe if the editors at BMX Plus! had taken a closer look at David’s bike they would have avoided their recent plastic pegs slip-up. I also wonder if DBG knows his chain is on backwards…

So, this is pretty amazing. Everyone knows that a large percentage of riders have adopted plastic pegs. Well this month BMX Plus! decided to get all topical by discussing the fact that David Grant rides them in the caption for this photo. Which would be fine. Except it’s totally made up.

Back story: This ledge is in Hollywood. It was the same day that Liam Zingbergs Luc-e 180ed it. Then David threw some wax on the ledge and toothed it. He pulled it after a couple tries. Devin Feil shot the photo. This is a trick that would definitely be easier with plastics, but David and Liam both still ride metal pegs. So there are the facts.

What I want to know is what kind of person writes a caption like this? First off you can pretty much tell he’s got metal pegs in the photo. I haven’t seen the magazine in real life but from the looks of it, the photo is pretty clear and you should probably be able to tell that those aren’t plastic. Plastics are thicker and usually black. But even if the author somehow thought that the pegs looked plastic, wouldn’t you double check first before writing that? Is the author so out of touch with modern BMX that he thinks you can’t toothpick 2 feet of a painted ledge without a plastic peg?

Side note: I know Plus has been going through some restructuring. Is this what happens in the interim between Pavia quitting and Arriaga taking over? I should probably also take the time to note that “bepossible” is not a real word and that “in a spot like this” doesn’t make any sense in this context.

Now, of course this isn’t a big deal. Or at least it shouldn’t be. A peg is just a peg right? The thing is, David doesn’t ride plastics. He doesn’t care for them. Thinks they’re corny. A lot of riders feel that way. I suspect David might throw on a set if he ever runs into the perfect aluminum rail set up that he wouldn’t even bother trying with metal pegs. But generally he’s not a fan. And he’s not stoked that he got called out for running a bike part that he doesn’t ride. I’m sitting here imagining myself in his situation and I’d be pretty annoyed as well.

This isn’t that big a deal, but it’s definitely worth calling them out. Plus should be more careful before they go around throwing out weird assumptions that will inevitably end up with them getting called out by much more popular BMX media sources.

David’s still off Lotek but Rich re-uploaded his section which ::mysteriously:: disappeared off the internet after David quit last year. One of my all time favorites so I’m glad to see it back in the internet ether. He also just left Long Beach after occupying our floor for a few months (as detailed over in Ask TCU the other day) and we miss him dearly.

I know your friends with both dudes, but DBG and Stranger/Lotek (Rich) seemed to go together so well. What happened there? And please tell a good DBG story while your at it. Be longwinded too, its fucking raining here today.

Excuse me if this has been touched upon in magazines, thanks to bookstores closing, I can’t find any around my area.

Nothing too crazy happened. David had offers to get paid to ride, Rich couldn’t match them, so he left. That dynamic right there is why 90% of riders leave their sponsors.

There are so many weird David stories. He’s got the most fucked up sense of humor of anyone I know. That’s pretty much the entire reason why I am cool with him sleeping on our floor for months on end, he makes me laugh my ass off every day. Here are a couple stories:

1) One time I go to use the bathroom. The lights are off but the door is closed. I knocked. Nobody replied. I tried the door handle. It’s locked. I felt confused. Did somebody lock the door from the inside and then close it? Whatever… I began to walk away and then I just hear David say, from inside the bathroom:

“Sup”

That’s funny to him. He loved the fact that he made me really confused for like 10 seconds. That’s like the definitive David Grant story.

2) David and Tony Malouf were sitting around smoking weed all night. David was in his sleeping bag on the ground about to go to sleep. Malouf was going to sleep in Tony Neyer’s bed because Tony was in San Diego with Shitty. Right before he goes into Neyer’s bed, David says “oh I talked to Shitty, him and Neyer are about to be back, so don’t sleep in his bed”. Malouf was so bummed because he thought he had a big comfortable bed to sleep in all lined up. Malouf was whining about it. Then Malouf calls Neyer: he was in SD and had no plans to come home. David just thought it would be funny to trick Malouf into sleeping on the floor when there was a bed open.

3) There was this girl David was banging for a while. He had known her forever and he would just go chill at her house and smoke all her weed and eat all her food. She had a really nice house. Anyway one night David didn’t feel like going over her house to hang out. Mastroni was bored and didn’t have anything to do, so he ended up going over and hanging out with this girl and her friends. David was sitting next to me on the couch and he started texting her saying stuff like “you’re such a whore. I know you’re going to fuck Mastroni. You’re a scumbag”.

She was getting so upset. The thing was… David was TOTALLY kidding. He was laughing his ass off the whole time and showing me all the texts he sent. She was really mad and he just stopped responding because he thought it would be funny to see her get all emotional.

David is a freak of nature. If you ever see him around, ask him to tell his Karl Poynter story.

David has a bike check up here. I’m mostly posting this because it gives me an opportunity to post a photo from the other day when David and Catfish switched shirts, for those of you who don’t have Instagram:

David came out and stayed with us in Long Beach for a week to film this edit welcoming him to BSD. I seriously just love watching David ride and can’t get over how great the vibe is in this edit.

Team Ohio has been saving up footage for a while now, and the seventeen minute long mixtape known as “#weinthis” is now online. I know seventeen minutes sounds absurdly long, but I watched the whole thing, and it flys by. It’s more entertaining than some DVDs I’ve seen, that’s for sure.

It’s official, David is off Sputnic and doing the BSD thang.

This is the stuff David got done over the Summer hanging out with Ben Hucke and Tammy out in Portland. His steeze gets crazier and crazier every single time David puts out an edit.
