More BMX Videos

The second Red Bull Empire of Dirt contest is over and here is the video from the finals. The course this year looked amazing and the riders didn’t hesitate to put it use. Ryan Nyquist and Ben Wallace definitely stuck out in my mind, with huge spins and transfers throughout the course. Matt Priest, Sergio Layos, and Kye Forte were also nice to see as they brought a more traditional style of trail riding to the contest.

This is what happens when a dude so iced out with X-Games medals he can’t get out of bed decides to put work in on a full video section.

I remember when this DVD came out, my friend described Nyquist’s section as “Dave Mirra’s Freestyle BMX but real life”. The first time I watched it I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. 720 double bar, double truck off a truck, straight double bar off a huge drop, possibly the first barspin flair, the 540 suicide double bar on a 35 foot quarter pipe, the video game tricks were nonstop. One clip that always stood out to me is the double peg up the sub box ramp to bar into the quarter below. Nyquist made it look super easy, too easy. Veteran shit. Moves like this are what have kept him on the Haro pro team and the BMXFU flow team for a long time.

The Haro team, consisting of Ryan Nyquist, Colin Mackay and Dan Foley (who is actually on Premium) session the Vans skatepark in California.

Due to a serious hand injury last year, Ryan Nyquist has had a lot of time off of his bike recently. Upon his return, he decided to try something new, and took his brakes off. Here’s a session that Ryan had on the Haro ramps in San Diego, sans stoppers.

“My wife and I took our oldest son to Yo Gabba Gabba Live in San Jose on Saturday. He is a huge fan of the show and watches it religiously.

During the second half of the show, I was invited to get on stage and help do the “Dancy Dance” called the “Disco Roll”. Pretty awesome! Got to meet all the characters from the show, including DJ Lance Rock and Biz Markie. Definitely a wild experience that doesn’t happen everyday!

The Haro team (Colin Mackay, Nyquist and Allan Cooke) went to Israel to do some demo’s. There’s a bunch of b roll in here of them checking out the area and it’s pretty cool. Also it’s awesome how steezy Colin is after all these years, he’s one of the best dudes to watch ride skateparks. After the jump watch a hilariously edited news segment in which Nyquist switches clothes with an Israeli reporter and hits some jumps.

Ryan Nyquist, Allan Cooke, and Colin Mackay were in Israel to put on some demos, and the nightly news crew from a Tel Aviv station came out and did a segment on them. Ryan Nyquist made sure that he didn’t answer a single question seriously. Pretty funny.

“The day before the trip officially started, we hit up San Jose for a warm up session at the Lake Cunningham skatepark. When we first arrived there were some pretty funny antics with Big Daddy trying to challenge Ryan Nyquist’s small son. After that the crew had a killer session, with local legends Ron Wilkerson and Cameron Birdwell showing up later in the day. Birdwell ends the session with an insane 3x barspin over a cement hip.“- Props

Annnd here it is! Ryan and Arik got together and rode some skateparks in the Milwaukee area for Osiris. Features some great riding from Nyquist as well as all the creativity you’ve come to expect from Arik…the 2 man lines and tricks are the ridiculous! This is easily the most entertaining split edit ever created. Watch it

So says Osiris. Maybe the most random combination of new school creative and old school ramp tech you could ever imagine. I’m anxiously awaiting.
