There’s a really good interview with Ken Spaulding of Zodiac Engineering on The Merged. He covers a lot of different topics (he basically says that they’re making the John Povah designed T1 stem that has been in the works for years) but one of the most interesting is that he’s working with Animal:

“I really like where Animal is headed. They are slowly bringing parts production back to The States, and that is something am personally very passionate about.”

The photo above is a prototype Animal sprocket that Zodiac made. I’m sure Animal’s production will stay primarily overseas for a long time, but the ramifications of Animal moving even some of their production back to the states could have a huge effect on the industry. In fact this is probably the first time I’ve EVER heard of a parts company who gets their stuff made in Taiwan moving any of their production back home. Very interesting.

Four piece bars are a controversial thing in this modern day world. Animal have been extremely successful with their Scerbo bars while other 4 piecers (Odyssey and Sputnic have both put out some that I don’t think they even make anymore) haven’t been very well liked. T1 are taking a shot with their new signature Elf bars:

“Four piece bars were big throughout the 80’s and 90’s. The Haro Kneesavers ruled all for a few years, and GT followed up with some of their own four piece creations. As the years went on, you saw them less and less. However, every so often, different takes on four piece bars have popped up from time to time due to various interest. Jump forward to 2011 and T-1. Our interest comes from our very own Shawn ‘Elf’ Walters. We have worked with Shawn on these to fine tune them to his liking. Nothing earth shattering, just some dialing in here and there. Two piece bars will still remain far above all else, at the top… but we are proud to offer something that riders like Elf might enjoy. Bikes are so very similar these days, so if you are considering a different look, then peek inside.”

What do you guys think? The 8.2″ rise might make them a good option for those of you who like Scerbo’s but want a little more height.
