After a year and a half off the bike due to a gnarly crash at the 2010 Vegas Dew Tour, TJ Lavin is back on his bike and clearing his backyard trails. Obviously this is a beautiful thing and hopefully we can see more footage from him in the future shredding like old times.

TJ Lavin Mandates Full Face Helmets At His Trails.

While much of the BMX world are focused on increasing helmet use, TJ Lavin is taking it a step further by mandating full face helmet use on his trails. You’ve got to respect the sentiment but what do you think will happen? It’s easy to imagine that a lot of people would rather just not ride TJ’s trails than spend $200+ on a helmet. It will be interesting to see if TJ can increase full face use in BMX through stuff like this.

Sounds like TJ is branching out as he recovers from his recent injuries:

TJ Lavin is headed back home for a lot of rehab, and Rob Darden just went in for blood clots after undergoing bi-lateral knee surgery. Get the details here.

ESPN’s got a very positive update on TJ Lavin’s condition:

“Professional BMX dirt rider T.J. Lavin has emerged from a coma and is conscious following his crash at the Dew Tour Championships on October 14. “He’s waking up more, asking questions and answering them while keeping his eyes open and watching football,” said Lavin’s mother Barbara on Saturday morning. “T.J. is awake and talking. He’s still a little fuzzy, but I got my friend back,” added Lavin’s friend Cesar Flores.

Doctors do not expect there to be any resulting brain damage from the accident.”

I’m sure his battle here is far from over, but this is great news considering how bad things could have gone. More info here.

Another TJ Lavin update from ESPN, apparently he’s still in the coma and is currently battling pneumonia but on the bright side they expect to be able to remove his breathing tubes this week.

Sounds like TJ Lavin is in bad shape after a rough crash at the Vegas Dew Tour. Not sure exactly how bad it is but here’s an update that @czr_bmx posted:

“Tj update: He didnt wake. He’s in a medically induced coma, has small bleeding in his head. Shattered his right wrist. Keeping him sedated for 24 hours, taking second cat scans in the morning “

Here’s hoping TJ pulls through okay and this isn’t too serious, we’ll post an update as soon as we know more. Til then, if you send your best wishes to TJ’s Twitter I’m sure he’ll see them once he’s coherent.
