Nike 6.0 Beats Gas

Read what this is all about after the jump.

The Nike 6.0 BMX team is fighting gasoline consumption by doing what they love: riding bikes. What’s your Beat Gasoline story?

Nike 6.0 has teamed up with Beat Gasoline to encourage youth to use the power of sport to beat gasoline. Gasoline itself isn’t the enemy. The enemy is its use. The Nike 6.0 BMX team is fighting global gasoline consumption by doing what they love: riding bikes. Not only does riding a bike reduce impact on the environment, the world is more interesting behind bars. Watch the 6.0 athletes story and share your own Beat Gasoline story by uploading a video to beatgasoline.com, illustrating how you use sport to power your life, rather than conventional fuel burning methods of transportation.

“When I’m on my bike cruising through the city, I feel in synch with the life of the city…hearing the sounds, meeting new people.” Says 6.0 BMX Athletes, Nigel Sylvester. “Being on a bike makes the world more interesting….plus it’s a low impact form of transportation that beats sitting in traffic any day.”

The Nike 6.0 BMX team is a crew of four diverse riders: Dennis Enarson, Garrett Reynolds, Nigel Sylvester, and Mike Spinner, who explore the world on bikes showcasing their talents in global competitions such as the Dew Tour, filming for BMX movies and capturing photos for Nike 6.0 ad campaigns. The Nike 6.0 will be showcasing their talents at the Nike 6.0 HB BMX Pro in Huntington Beach, July 23-26th.

Nike is rewarding the best Beat Gasoline video entries, based on viewer voting, with 6.0 product and also helping each entrant contribute to their charitable organization. Each week (2) entries will receive a $100 Global Giving card and T-shirts. The grand prize winner of the competition will receive a Nike 6.0 prize pack and a $1,000 Global Giving card.

  • cliff huxtable

if i didn’t commute 2 hours every day in the florida heat i might be more motivated for it

  • Matt

I wonder how much gasoline was used in the 14 hour plane ride to europe???

  • JJ Walker

    DYN-O-MITE!!!

  • layne rieger

haha. The gasoline used for that trip was probably so vast.
They probably drove around in a huge nike 6.0 motorhome throwing gasoline filled balloons out the window.
    Cool idea though!

1 gallon of fuel per second for a 747, (5 gallons of fuel per mile (12 liters per kilometer)) – stats taken from the boeing website.

  • gregrides

so they rode their bikes to france?

  • dandepre

haha at the end it sounds like garret says “thats our weak ass story, whats yours?” haha

  • haha

What a stupid publicity stunt, who do they think they’re kidding? Nike send a team of bike riders across the globe to spread the message of NOT using gasoline? The whole idea must be a joke. As is Nike in BMX in the first place. So the message is, dont drive a car, fly around the world in jets? What a load of shit. I hope they all get hit by Hummers

  • J Remy

    haters…

  • Nike propoganda

Yes another video from the six-point-hoes

Nike is amazing at milking riders, paying them peanuts. Even Dave mirra wasn’t near as big a sellout to ride for Nike.

I wonder how much gass it takes to import those tacky sweatshop shoes.

  • Glenn

i rode my bike down and up a big hill to get cigarettes. that’s how i beat gasoline.

  • e

    wow, youre dumb

  • ebineeeeza

sweet man, they travel all around the globe with airline fuel to send us that message! thanks.

my accord has been broken down for like 3 months, untill yesterday when i finally fixed it. now im gonna use a fuckload of gas to make up for how much i didnt drive this year haha

just kidding, but really though, im glad to get to drive again haha

  • e

well i thought it was pretty cool, especially for a company like nike.but wtf is nigel talking about, “hearing the animals” roflol, he just proved that he’s worthless as a spokesman and frankly his riding isnt all that either.

  • http://www.myspace.com/brownnoisearenice elwilburino

wow, what MASSIVE gimmick. i do agree with nigel though and i often go to the city to hear animals.

  • Matt

Alright so they used 17,350 gallons of jet fuel to get to london. Plus the gas that they used there. But I guess Jet Fuel isn’t technically gasoline…righ NIKE???

  • Luca Demarco

    lol

  • Lance

Can you do 180 crook to bars? How about half cabs to rails? Didn’t think so, stfu.

  • Lance

I haven’t driven my car in over a year. Riding is way more fun than driving plus you get stronger than fuck when you’re riding everywhere. Just pedaling through the streets, manualing over bumps and hopping up curbs helps develope bike control and style.

  • e

    you missed my point

  • Brigtop

how much fuel does it take to bring nikes from nam? more than they’re worth.

  • gregrides

doesnt he ride for a company called animal? maybe its a shout out or something.

  • your awesome
