Derek Nelson in “Stop All The Clocks, Erase All The Maps”

I think Derek Nelson’s claim to fame might be his appearance on Road Fools 13 riding a 50 pound bike. Steve Crandall described him as one of BMX’s rare free thinkers. This is a section from a few years ago, captured from VHS. I think Derek Nelson is a kook, and his spinal cord is going to be pissed soon if it isn’t already, but this is freestyle and he’s definitely doing his own thing. Enjoy.

    Derek Nelson is one of the raddest people. We rode his park last year, and it’s full of the strangest and most unique obstacles. Showed us his machine shop and all around the park. Absolutely amazing rider, and does some of the most technical stuff I’ve seen, while being really quiet and humble. He certainly deserves more coverage for his riding and all around creativity, but I don’t think he really cares. He seems content with his park, custom bikes, helping out local kids, and creating all sorts of different things from metal, skateboards, art, etc.
