Jay Miron & The First Double Backflip.

Wow, this is something I never thought I’d see online. Years ago Dave Mirra double backflipped a box jump at a contest and I think DC even ran an ad proclaiming it the first, even though it was years after this one was done, but here is proof that Miron did, in fact, invent it. Can you imagine a more awkward situation to learn a new trick in than this? The video is so unbelievably cheesy but amazing, it’s almost a shame that this sort of thing doesn’t really exist in BMX anymore. Although Jay has moved on from BMX, this is awesome to watch because he truly had a mindstate about getting shit done on his bike that very, very few others have ever had an this is a great example of such.

When he rode for hoffman I forget what video it was but he had a clip trying a double an casing his front wheel. That was the first I had ever seen anyone try the double flip and that had to be around 93ish? He came close enough that it definitley looked possible in that video and then I guess this came..

I think DC stated that it was the first double pulled in a competition. Still I bet Miron was pretty pissed they hyped it like they did.

Greg Dickson is right i think!
But about Jay i’ve watched it again and again, have you notice the height of this double flip?!? Maybe that’s the camera angle but it seems really really high! Much higher than Mirra’s.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Adam-Grandmaison/1196893557 Adam Grandmaison

Are you all retarded? Jay was the first to pull it, period. Trying it and pulling it are 2 different things.

I talked to Jay about this years ago and he said he was only ever pissed at Mirra about it because he felt like in interviews and shit, Mirra never gave him credit for it and acted like Miron hadn’t done it beforehand. Which was compounded by the fact that Dave and Jay had years of infamous beef prior to that. He wasn’t exactly ripshit about it, just felt like he was snubbed and thought it was lame.

    Nice one anonymous.

Somewhere on the internet there is footage of Reuel Erickson pulling the first one on dirt. Might just be the first one ever documented. It was pretty gnarly though. NO ONE killed it like Jay did.

  • http://Website brownieman

don’t forget to watch soil too. all you kids. real og fun vid.

  • http://Website brownieman

such a hard argument. if the first guy attemted and got close you could say he invented it. but jay pulled it first. but one of the other commenters said you can’t invent something you can’t do. which also makes sense. got my mind going. im sick as fuck and commenting way to much today. fml. and the bad dog commoent is funny as shit. adam you truck puker. hahahaha

  • http://www.repset.net smay

    Definitely smiled after that one.

  • http://Website Steve Mohr

I rode trails with Jay once…….Super Nice guy.

  • http://Website jeremy

You can’t “invent” a trick. Your can only do a trick no one has done before you.

  • http://Website meh…

i can still see that DC ad in my mind. it was on some huge box jump and he was basically in the ceiling. raul ericson (i think thats who it was) had been trying it in dirt comp finals for like 5 years though.

  • http://Website meh…

and for midschool riding watch “nowhere fast”

  • http://Website Name (required)

“invent” is really the wrong word for tricks anyway. pulling the trick is really all that matters. saying someone was the first person to attempt a trick is kind of pointless because the line that gets drawn between “close” and “not very close at all” is so subjective. example: if someone said they were going to try a double flip but then just threw their bike, wouldn’t that technically be an attempt? so attempts are meaningless, landing the trick is all that matters and Jay Miron is definitely the first to land a double flip. /of

  • http://Website meh…

dc didn’t do anything aside from congratulate mirra on the first double flip IN A COMPETITION.

  • http://Website meh…

mirrons butt hurt over mirras double flip was a little misplaced. he seemed like he was upset that mirra didn’t explicitly add the fact that mirron pulled the first one non-competition before he did the competition one, as if he was supposed to add that little footnote into every interview he did about his own accomplishment.

why would mirra hype mirron up in his own interviews while they are beefing? the interviews were about mirras competition flip, its not like mirra was going around saying “im the dude who did the first double flip.” didn’t they even fight once?
