pretty sure he pedals backwards because he runs little to no slack in his hub so it engages real easy. seems dumb when it comes to riding a freecoaster.

his freecoaster engaged. At least this is true for me, when i have to disengage my freecoaster it’s easier for me to maintain balance by continuing to back pedal.

yeh sometimes if you have alil to much forward pressure on your pedals and not alot of slack in your coaster it can engage. every once in a while it would happen to me and id do the same thing. just one slow backpedal to keep balanced and have your feet come back to bunnyhop position..

no…watch his riding….he uses the foward pedal force to do alot of those crazy manual/tailtap variations so he needs his coaster to engage easily

I think it was because people said he could only do those sliders because of a freecoaster, so he learned them while backpedaling just for fun. He said something about it on a how-to slider video

i think he does it to make it a bot different really, mix it up a bit. jus the same as all other riding styles you wanna change it up a bit. i think it makes the section better as he mixes coasting and backpedalling.

yea he prob doesnt run to much slack in his coaster. exp with all those full cabs he does. i run a coaster and i can do sliders just as easy on a cassette. i can go as far but there not really that different. it really does bug me though when people back pedal with a freecoaster. i mean thats the whole point of running one right?? not having to backpedal?? haha but idk whatev karl is the shitttt

my thoughts exactly, he just did it to add more spice to his line, if you notice he starts back pedaling right when he hops into the slider, so it had to be on purpose.

does back pedeling help him like maintain his speed or help it when he does mile long skidders?

Maybe that new shadow hub (that’s never coming out) is a direct drive coaster like the G-Sport prototype. When you pedal backwards it engages and you can pick up speed in reverse.

I’m sure this isn’t the case and the Shadow coaster is exactly like every other coaster on the market. Honestly, if I was filming I couldn’t accept a fakie trick where I back pedaled.
