To hate something or someone so passionately only means one thing, and that it they or it closely resembles elements of oneself that for whatever reason can’t be express to it’s fullest.

BMX riders generally conform to certain fashions and character traits, some off the top of my head would be the punk rock thing, tattoo’s, tight jeans etc etc. The list is endless and it’s always been the case. It’s very rare of a BMXer or people in general to live in a completely original way, with primarily original thoughts and opinions outside of any external influence.

Now, I’m not saying Rick Thorne is original exactly, but he has taken some of these fashions and traits to more extreme levels (and probably isn’t a stranger to using the word extreme to describe himself either)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking things to extreme levels especially when the person involves does more good for people than harm. In my opinion, Rick will always do that as it’s built into his nature.

Obviously when a person lives more deeply involved in a certain culture, they do alienate themselves slightly as most people who live on a more mellow plain of existence. Most people feel the need to conform slightly to societies views, their parents views, the views and policies of the work place etc. Rick is fortunate enough to not have to do that, he’s basically said ‘fuck it’ to all of societies rules and followed his own visions.

Seriously, how many people can say they’ve done that? Not lived in fear of others? Again, my hat is off to Rick on this level. He’s not given up and slowed down, he’s a promoter and well….. he promotes.

My point is that all BMX riders in some way aspire to be completely free, and if that involves tattooing necks, singing bad punk songs and sticking two fingers up to the system, then so be it. I think as long as there’s respect and politeness for how others chose to live then the world would be a pretty good place.

Rick highlights elements of all of us to the extreme level. This will always be disliked, but remember, it’s only because of envy on the part of the haters. The haters know that he highlights the parts of themselves that they only wish could be expressed fully.

Another example would be that homophobic are nearly always suppressing homosexual urges. It’s because of that very suppression and energy building up inside of them that they hate anyone strong enough to promote who they really are.

In a world that consists of THE MAN, corrupt sections of the government, a possible NWO, the controlled terrorism, the engineered financial collapses etc etc (and a host of other diabolical systems that are trying to take away peoples freedom daily) Then, why the heck does everyone seem to be hating on the ones who would be the first ones to fight back when these fuckers try to take liberties? Think about it. Humanity has power as we all have individually…. so lets fight for it.

I respect Adam22 for this reason, and also Rick for the same reason…. They’re very different people but independence is most certainly power.
