Bears require a large area in which to roam. As civilization continues to encroach into undeveloped areas, bears lose their habitat. The loss of salmon runs in the Pacific Northwest draws grizzly bears and humans into potentially dangerous confrontations.
Nature presents its own problems. For example, female grizzlies generally do not breed until they are five to eight years old. Then for the next two to three years they train their cubs in the art of survival. During this intensive training period, no other young are produced.
The bear cannot exist in today’s world without our help. The science of wildlife management must prevail to assist these great bears.
Wildlife Forever is doing all that it can to ensure the future of wild bears in North America. But more needs to be done. When you Adopt-a-Bear we can pledge support for additional management, research and habitat projects to benefit wild bear populations across the country. Let’s not let this magnificent wilderness legend vanish from its native territory.
