Standard Videolog 1998

Here’s some nostalgia for the older guys out there.

“Before the web we had this thing called VHS. This was released as a video-catalog for the interbike trade show in 1998. It was also played at various races and shops. The first 3 minutes is straight riding, the rest is commercials for Standard product.”

I clearly remember sitting in class in 4th grade drooling over the Lengthy and the STA in BMX Plus ads, wishing there was some magical way a 10 year old could come into a few hundred dollars and purchase the Standard frame/fork kit from the black & white Dans Comp pages in the back. Back then it was all about bullet-proof, bash-proof, lifetime warrantee, absolutely indestructible products, and the ads really reflect that. Crazy how times have changed. This will take a lot of people back for sure. Young kids, learn a little about your roots. Thanks to Glenn PP for sending this over.

I got this video when they returned my cracked trail boss. It definitely reminded me of when Standard was respected and considered cool by kids. Its a bummer to see how the company is seen now. Rick doesn’t seem to be doing anything to improve their image either. Any of you outside of Iowa own a Standard?

Wow, like all things BMX back in the day, we took what we could get. I remember watching this and being so stoked that there was riding in this and it was FREE! I too also remember when Standard was ALL there was and the best company out there. I have not seen a person besides a team rider, on a Standard in years. Literally, years…

44 tooth sprockets are so funny looking, I used to run one with a fat ass moto cross chain. I am pretty sure a 44tooth sprocket weighs more then my grim reaper frame.
