I never bothered to watch this when it first started getting posted around, because I had already posted that stupid Eastern one a while back and figured it couldn’t be funny. I just got around to watching it and it was actually pretty spot on. The line about reading Dig and having to go buy some 6.0’s and a Mirraco complete had me ROFLing.

The reason BMX is the way it is, is money. BMX is blowing up. It’s getting way more public. Way more attention. Way more money. Money controls everything. If you ask me, that sucks, but that’s the way it is. I started riding in 2001. BMX was just starting to get some attention then, but I was about 14 and did not give a fuck about all of that really. I just headed out to meet my buddy at our trails everyday after school and dig 3ft dirt jumps or ride street around our area with my Diamondback Mr Lucky. Didn’t have a skatepark then. Didn’t really care about who was popular or what was popular. Who was doing the next big thing. I just rode my bike and had fun. Nothing else mattered. Nothing. There were no rules or guidelines for what you needed to look like, or what your bike had to look like. There was no specific style of your riding. You just rode. That line has been crossed. Now kids have to be just like the modern BMX superstars. Ride like them. Dress like them. Worship them. Pretty wack if you ask me. That’s just the way of society though. Everything has to always be about someone else. We have to have someone to follow. Why can’t you just “do” yourself?

P.S. I personally like fixed gears. But I do find it a bit funny that some of these hipster kids that just started riding these fixed gears that have no bike background whatsoever really, think they’re doing something so different.
